Is a subscription required?
A compatible Ring Protect Plan is required for LTE, cloud storage, and smart alerts. A compatible plan comes with 3GB of cellular data per location per month. Additional data is available at $1/GB.
Typical usage ranges from 100 - 300 GB per month. See Ring.com/plans for more details.
Does it record 24/7?
24/7 recording is not available, but the device continuously monitors its surroundings and automatically records when motion is detected. This eliminates empty footage and conserves power and data.
How long is video footage stored?
The default setting in the US is 30 days, but you can customize your settings for shorter or longer periods, up to 180 days. Storage time for each device you have will need to be set individually.
Videos can also be downloaded to your phone or computer for longer retention.
Does it need Wi-Fi or power hookups?
No. It can also connect via built-in cellular (LTE) and can be powered by battery with solar recharging. It can also connect via Wi-Fi and plug into a standard 120V outlet if available.
