Ring Alarm Security System
Frequently asked questions
What is Alarm Security Kit?
The Alarm Security Kit is a DIY home security system that works on both houses and flats. The 5-piece kit comes with a Base Station, Contact Sensor, Motion Detector, Keypad and Range Extender.
Alarm is simple enough that it can be installed without any tools or professional installation. Simply place the Contact Sensor on any door or window in your home, and choose to get a mobile notification when it opens. You can also place the Motion Detector in any room of your home, and get a notification when motion is detected.
Do I have to purchase the kit? Or can I buy it piece by piece?
To get started with Alarm, you need to purchase an Alarm Security Kit. The Base Station controls your entire Alarm system and is only available with the Alarm Security Kit. The Base Station cannot be purchased separately.
Additional Contact Sensors, Motion Detectors, Outdoor Sirens, Keypads and Range Extenders can be purchased separately to expand the coverage of your system. 1st and 2nd generation devices and accessories are compatible and will connect with the Base Station to protect your entire home.
How does Assisted Monitoring work?
When setting up Assisted Monitoring for your Ring Alarm, you will be asked to provide the contact details of up to three emergency contacts (this can include you as the owner). These should include trusted family members, friends, or neighbours who can respond appropriately in the event of a security issue. As the owner, you don’t have to be assigned as an emergency contact.
In addition to receiving notifications and emails when your Ring Alarm is triggered, Assisted Monitoring automatically calls your list of emergency contacts to notify them of a potential security issue. During the call, your emergency contacts can accept the notification by clicking number 1 on their phone keypad; they should then be able to appropriately respond to the notification. What happens if the power or internet goes out?
Alarm comes with a 24-hour backup battery1 that kicks in whenever the power at home goes out. You can also get Cellular Backup with Ring Home Standard or Premium so your system can stay online during an outage.
Can I use Alarm without Alarm Calls?
Yes. Without Alarm Calls, you can still choose to receive mobile and email notifications whenever Alarm detects a security threat at your home, so you can self-monitor your property from anywhere. However, without a subscription to Ring home, you also won't have access to Cellular Backup to keep your system online if your internet goes down.
Does Alarm offer Alarm Calls for commercial businesses?
No. We recommend Alarm is used on residential properties only.
