What should I consider when choosing between a wired video doorbell or a battery-powered video doorbell in Australia and New Zealand?
The wired vs. wireless doorbell decision often comes down to your preferences around location flexibility and installation. If your home has an existing doorbell system, then Ring’s wired video doorbells can be installed by an electrician to seamlessly connect to the existing system. Wired video doorbells are also powered by your existing electrical system for continuous power, so there is no need to re-charge a battery. Wireless video doorbells can be installed without an electrician, and they can be placed in a wider range of locations (including apartments!). Renters also appreciate the portability of wireless video doorbells because they can be easily moved when it’s time to move on.
Can my Ring doorbell send an alert when my parcel is delivered?
A smart doorbell camera does much more than alert you to visitors at your front door. All our camera doorbells offer real-time notifications whenever motion is detected, so you’ll know the moment a package is placed within your designed Package Zone. Say goodbye to missed deliveries and drop-offs with Package Alerts – available on all video doorbells from Ring.
Does the video doorbell save my videos and photos so I can view them later?
If you have a subscription to Ring Protect, videos captured by your Ring Video Doorbell will be saved to your Ring account for up to 180 days. Photos captured will be saved to your Ring account for up to 7 days, so you can review them at any time.
A free 30-day Ring Protect Trial is included with any Ring Video Doorbell or Security Camera purchase unless you are already subscribed to a Ring Protect plan at the same location of the new device. You can choose to subscribe to Ring Protect at any time to save, review and share all videos and photos captured by your Video Doorbell or Security Camera, and you will be charged when you subscribe to a plan and after your trial ends. Ring Protect is a comprehensive service that activates video recording and photo capture, saving and sharing for your Ring doorbell or camera, plus a few extra perks.
If you have a subscription to Ring Protect, you can share your videos and photos with anyone, including neighbours, friends, family and local law enforcement. A free 30-day Ring Protect Trial is included with any Ring doorbell or camera purchase unless you are already subscribed to a Protect Plan at the same location of the new device.1 You can choose to subscribe to Ring Protect at any time to save, review and share all videos and photos captured by your doorbell or camera, and you will be charged when you subscribe to a plan and after your trial ends.

Do I need Ring Protect to use the video doorbell?
No. You can still use your doorbell or camera to watch over your home and answer the door from anywhere, even without a subscription to Ring Protect. Without Ring Protect, you’ll still receive real-time notifications when anyone comes to your door, and you can answer the notification to see, hear and speak to visitors in real time right from your mobile device.
However, without a subscription to Ring Protect, you won’t be able to review any videos that you missed in real time, and you won’t be able to save your videos or share them with anyone. Do wireless video doorbells require frequent charging?
The Ring wireless doorbell and camera do require charging, though our wire-free doorbells are designed to last for months between charges. Wireless doorbell camera batteries can drain more quickly in extremely cold weather or when placed in a location that receives a consistently weak wifi connection. If you feel your battery is draining more quickly than it should, please visit the Ring Help section on our website for troubleshooting instructions.
