Frequently Asked Questions
What’s the difference between Video Doorbell (2nd Gen) and the previous generation?
Both generations of Video Doorbell send notifications to your phone, tablet and PC when anyone presses your doorbell or triggers the built-in motion sensors. When you answer the notification, you can see, hear and speak to visitors from anywhere.
Regarding main differences, the new Video Doorbell has 1080p HD video (vs 720p HD), customisable motion zones, and a revamped mounting setup that simplifies removal for battery charging. The Video Doorbell (2nd Gen) also has improved audio quality and crisper night vision.
How does Video Doorbell (2nd Gen) stay powered?
Video Doorbell (2nd Gen) is powered by a rechargeable, built-in battery or can be hardwired to existing doorbell wiring for continuous charging or powered with a Ring plug-in adaptor (sold seperately).
What are Quick Replies?
Ideal for when you can't get to the door, or just don't feel like answering, Quick Replies let you set a pre-recorded audio message to play when your doorbell is pressed. Choose from six preset responses, toggle Quick Replies on and off in the Ring app and if you have a Ring Protect subscription you can even ask your visitor to leave a message, which you can playback later. Think of it as an answering machine for your front door.
Will these still be compatible with mounting brackets, solar mounts, charging cables and wedge/corner kits from the previous generation Video Doorbell?
The Video Doorbell (2nd Gen) is only backwards compatible with charging cable and a new mounting bracket comes in the box. Wedge and Corner Kits are sold separately. Solar mounts are not optimised for the new Video Doorbell and an updated version is available for purchase.
What's the difference between Indoor Camera (2nd Gen) and Stick Up Cam?
The main difference between Indoor Camera (2nd Gen) and Stick Up Cam is where you can place them and how they receive power. Indoor Camera (2nd Gen) is an indoor-only camera that plugs into standard power outlets for non-stop power. Indoor Camera (2nd Gen) also includes a manual Privacy Cover that turns off video and audio with a simple swivel. Stick Up Cam is a versatile camera that goes almost anywhere, indoors or out. Plus, it's weather-resistant and comes in 4 different power options: battery, plug-in, solar, and Power over Ethernet.
What's the Privacy Cover and how does it work?
Indoor Camera (2nd Gen) comes with a manual, removable Privacy Cover. When you slide it in front of the camera lens, Indoor Camera's camera and mic will turn off. When you're ready to turn Indoor Camera (2nd Gen) back on, just swivel the Privacy Cover to the side. And if you're ever unsure how you left it, you can check the status of your camera in the Ring app at any time.
What privacy features are included with Indoor Camera (2nd Gen)?
Indoor Camera (2nd Gen) includes a Privacy Cover, which you can manually adjust to cover the camera lens and turn off camera and microphone recording. Indoor Camera (2nd Gen) also allows you to configure your privacy settings based on your current needs. Toggle motion alerts, motion, or audio recording off in the Ring app at any time. Create a motion schedule to disable motion alerts and recording during the times you're usually home. Use Modes to select a camera state with Disarmed, Home, or Away Mode (subscription required). Additionally, if you have a specific area in your home that you don't want to monitor, create Privacy Zones to black out that area to control what you want to see or record.
Do Video Doorbell (2nd Gen) and Indoor Camera (2nd Gen) save my videos and photos so I can view them later?
If you have a subscription to Ring Protect, videos captured by your Video Doorbell or Security Camera will be saved to your Ring account for up to 180 days. You can manage your video storage time through the Control Centre. Photos captured will be saved to your Ring account for up to 7 days, so you can review them at any time.
