Receiving Person and Package Alerts with Smart Alerts

Smart Alerts notify you when Ring detects people, packages, and vehicles on select devices.

This feature requires a compatible Ring Home subscription.

Setting up Smart Alerts

Smart Alerts work with most battery, solar, plug-in, and wired Ring products.

Enabling and adjusting Smart Alerts

  1. Open the Ring app to the main dashboard.

  2. Tap more (•••) on the camera you want to access.

  3. Tap your device's Settings.

  4. Tap
    Motion Settings
    .
  5. Tap
    Smart Alerts
    .
    • To activate Smart Alerts, tap
      Enable Feature
      .
    • Tap
      Continue
      .
  6. Choose your preferred alerts for
    Person
    ,
    Vehicle
    and
    Other Motion
    .
    • Vehicle Detection will be rolled out over time to eligible Ring security cameras and video doorbells. More devices will be enabled to use Vehicle Detection in the future.
    • Check Smart Alerts in your Ring app for availability of Vehicle Detection.
  7. Tap
    Done
    to save new settings. Editing existing settings will save automatically.

Setting up Package Alerts

Package Alerts are available on select doorbells.

Enabling and adjusting Package Alerts

  1. Open the Ring app to the main dashboard.

  2. Tap more (•••) on the camera you want to access.

  3. Tap your device's Settings.

  4. Tap
    Motion Settings
    .
  5. Tap
    Smart Alerts
    .
  6. Under
    Package Zone
    tap on the bell icon to enable recording and notifications.
  7. For first-time activation, follow these additional steps:
    • To enable Package Alerts, tap
      Turn On Feature

    • Tap
      Continue
      .
    • Create your
      Package Zone
      , then adjust it to surround your delivery area.
    • Tap
      Done
      .
    • Tap
      Continue
      .
  8. Editing existing settings will save automatically.

You will now see Package Alert markers on your Event Timeline. Learn more about the Event Timeline feature. Package Alerts work best with medium-to-large shipping boxes. Envelopes, tubes, small boxes, and food deliveries might not be detected.

Adjusting your Package Zone and Sensitivity

  1. Open the Ring app to the main dashboard.

  2. Tap more (•••) on the camera you want to access.

  3. Tap your device’s settings.
  4. Tap
    Motion Settings

  5. Tap
    Smart Alerts
    .
  6. Under Package, tap
    Customize
    .
  7. Select
    Package Zone
    to set where your doorbell detects packages.
  8. Select
    Package Sensitivity
    to adjust the balance between missed deliveries and unwanted alerts.
    • Note:
      For best Package Alert accuracy, set Motion Sensitivity to highest. This might affect your device’s battery life and increase the number of notifications you receive.
  9. Tap
    Save
