Moving Home With Your Video Doorbell and Security Cameras
Follow these steps to remove and reinstall your Video Doorbell or Security Camera when moving home.
Note: The process for moving home with a Ring Alarm is different. Learn how to move your Ring Alarm to a new address. Before you begin Turn the power off at the circuit breaker if your device is hardwired. Place any hardware that you remove into a plastic bag and tape it to the device, or put it back into the original box.
How to remove a Ring Video Doorbell faceplate
Use the screwdriver that came in the box with your doorbell to remove the security screw that holds the faceplate in place. If you’ve lost the original screwdriver, you can get a new one from a Spare Parts Kit on Ring.com. The Spare Parts Kit includes a screwdriver, mounting bracket, security screws and other parts you may need. Identify which Ring Video Doorbell you have and its compatible accessories.
When to uninstall your Ring Video Doorbell or Security Camera
Even if you're not living at your old home, you may want to wait to uninstall your device so you can continue using them while you move.
If you have a Ring subscription plan and want to continue receiving videos, you'll need to keep your wifi service connected.
Reinstalling Ring devices at a new home
You do not need to create a new location to set up your Ring Video Doorbell or Security Camera at a new address. In the Ring app:
- Tap themenu
- TapSettings
- Update your previous address to your new address
- TapContinue
- Confirmyour new address
- Tap themenuin the top left corner again
- TapDevices
- Tap the device you want to set up
- Be sure to have the name of your new wifi network and password handy
- TapDevice Health
- TapReconnect to Wifi
- Once you’re reconnected to wifi, check Motion Settings and Motion Schedules to make sure they're customised for your new home
Repeat the process for each Video Doorbell and Security Camera that you are reinstalling. Note: If you try to set up a device and it is registered to someone else, check with the other members of your household. The person that initially set up the device is the device owner. In order for you to set up the Ring device on your account, the device needs to be removed in the Ring app.

Leaving Ring Video Doorbells or Security Cameras behind when moving
If you want to leave a Ring device behind and transfer it to a new owner, you must remove the device from the Ring app to transfer ownership. The new owner will then need to download the Ring app, create their own account and set up the device on their app from their mobile device.
Cancelling a Ring subscription plan, physically uninstalling a device or deleting the Ring app will not transfer ownership of a Ring device.
Once a device is removed, all its data and videos will be deleted. Learn how to download your videos.
Your Ring subscription plan will not be automatically cancelled when you remove your device. Learn how to cancel your subscription plan.
How to delete your previous address in the Ring app
If you are not installing any Ring devices at your new location and want to delete your previous address:
- Open the Ring app
- Tap themenu
- TapSettings
- TapDelete Location
- You may need to scroll to see the red bin icon at the bottom of the screen.
