Troubleshooting Power Issues for Wired Doorbell Plus and Pro

How to troubleshoot the most common causes of insufficient power with your Wired Doorbell Plus or Wired Doorbell Pro.

The troubleshooting process is the same for both doorbells. Not sure which doorbell you have? Here's how to check in the Ring app.

Symptoms of insufficient power

  • Regularly losing connection to your wifi network.
  • Freezing up or shutting down during the ringtone sound after a button press.
  • Regularly shutting off (the white light on the front will turn off).
  • Freezing up during a live event.
  • Not correctly ringing your existing internal doorbell.
  • Night vision doesn't work.
  • Doorbell works fine for a couple of events and then stops working.
  • Doorbell does not produce lights or sounds and is unresponsive.

How to troubleshoot insufficient power

If the installation is correct, you can attempt to reboot or power cycle the Wired Doorbell Pro.

If your Ring device is online, you can reboot it in the Ring app. Here's how:

  1. Open the Ring app to the main dashboard.

  2. Tap more (•••) on the camera you want to access.

  3. Tap your device's Settings.

  4. Tap the Device Health tile.

  5. Tap
    Reboot this Device
    at the bottom.
  6. Tap
    Reboot this Device
    again.
  7. The Ring app will display
    Reboot Successful
    after the reboot is complete.

If your Ring device is offline or has not been setup, here's how to manually reset the device:

  1. Gently remove the faceplate by pulling it from the lower edge of the plate.
  2. On the top left side of the device, press and hold the setup button for 20 seconds.
  3. Watch the Ring device for a light pattern to determine if the factory reset is in progress.

If your Ring device continues to experience power issues, try a power cycle:

  1. Turn the power off at the breaker to stop power going to the Ring device.
  2. Press the doorbell's button to confirm that it's receiving no power.
  3. Turn the power at the breaker on again.
  4. Allow a few moments for the Ring device to power on.

Using a Plug-in Adapter

Wired Doorbell Plus and Wired Doorbell Pro can also be powered by using a Plug-In Adapter.
