Using Live View

Live View lets you stream real-time video from your Ring Video Doorbells and Security Cameras on the Ring app or on Ring.com without a Ring Protect subscription. Both account owners and Shared Users can access Live View.

With a Ring Protect subscription, you can get video recordings of Live View sessions and events.

Actions in Live View

Depending on which Ring device you’re using, there are certain actions you can take while using Live View.

  • Enable Sound
    - Listen in on what’s going on in your property. Select the
    speaker button
    to enable.
  • Two-Way Talk
    - Speak to whoever’s there.
    • Select the
      microphone button
      to start talking.
  • Activate Siren
    - Sound a security camera siren.
    • Select the
      exclamation button
      and confirm on the pop-up dialog.
  • Turn on Lights
    - Turn on your lights.
    • Select the
      light button
      to turn on or off.

Live View will automatically turn off after 10 minutes.

How to use Live View in the Ring app

  1. Open the Ring app.
  2. Tap a
    Snapshot
    image from your Video Doorbell or Security Camera. Live View will open.
  3. Depending on which device you’re using, there are certain things you can do:
    • Enable sound
      by tapping the speaker button (available for doorbells and security cameras).
    • Use Two-Way Talk
      by tapping the microphone icon (available for doorbells and security cameras).
    • Turn on lights
      by tapping the light button (available for security cameras with lights)
    • Activate siren
      by tapping the exclamation button (available for security cameras).
  4. To end Live View, tap the
    End Live
    button.

Note: Some features may require you to update your mobile device's operating software and download the latest version of the Ring app to access.

How to access Live View 

If you have several Video Doorbells or Security Cameras at the same Location, you can access Live View for each device separately.

  1. Tap the
    menu (≡)
    on the top left in the Ring app.
  2. Tap
    Devices
    , and select a Video Doorbell or Security Camera.
  3. Tap
    Live View.
  4. Depending on which device you’re using, there are certain things you can do:
    • Enable sound
      by tapping the speaker button (available for doorbells and security cameras).
    • Use Two-Way Talk
      by tapping the microphone icon (available for doorbells and security cameras).
    • Turn on lights
      by tapping the light button (available for security cameras with lights)
    • Activate the siren
      by tapping the exclamation button (available for security cameras).
  5. To end Live View, tap the
    End Live
    button.

How to turn off starting Live View from a Camera Preview

  1. Tap the
    menu (≡)
    on the top left in the Ring app.
  2. Tap
    Devices
    and select a Video Doorbell or Security Camera.
  3. Tap
    Video Settings
    .
  4. Toggle
    Tap Camera Preview for Live View
    off.

Now, tapping the Camera Preview tile on your dashboard will take you to that device's Event History timeline instead of automatically starting Live View. Repeat this process for other devices, as needed.

Live View Picture-in-Picture

Live View Picture-in-Picture is a Ring Protect Plus subscription feature for the Ring app.

If you’re watching Live View and minimise the Ring app, you’ll still be able to watch Live View in a small window in the corner of your screen for up to 10 minutes. While using Live View Picture-in-Picture, you won’t be able to access Live View controls. To use them, tap the window, then tap the full screen icon to return to Live View in the Ring app.

To close Live View Picture-in-Picture, tap the x in the top right.

How to turn off Picture-in-Picture

  1. Open the Ring app.
  2. Tap the
    menu (≡)
    .
  3. Tap
    Devices
    , and select a Video Doorbell or Security Camera.
  4. Open
    Live View.
  5. Tap the
    More
    button in the bottom right.
  6. Toggle
    Live View Picture-in-Picture
    off.

Using Live View on Ring.com

Account owners and Shared Users can also use Live View from Ring.com, after logging in with the same username and password used to access the Ring app.

Accessing Live View on Ring.com

  1. Log in to your
    Ring account
    using the same email and password that you use for the Ring app.
  2. Select one of the
    Snapshot
    images under the
    Cameras
    section for a camera or doorbell; Live View will open.
  3. Depending on which device you’re using, there are certain things you can do:
    • Enable sound
      by selecting the speaker button (available for doorbells and cameras).
    • Use Two-Way Talk
      by selecting the microphone icon (available for doorbells and cameras). Your browser may ask you to give Ring.com permission to access your microphone. If this happens, select
      Allow
      .
    • Turn on lights
      by selecting the light button (available for Spotlight Cams and Floodlight Cams).
    • Activate the camera siren
      by selecting the exclamation button. 
  4. To end Live View, select the
    End Live
    button.

Multi-Cam Live View

Multi-Cam Live View, available for Ring Protect Plus subscribers, lets you start Live View on Ring.com (on a desktop browser) for up to four Ring devices at a single location simultaneously. Learn more about Multi-Cam Live View.
