Features and functions of the Ring app

Welcome to Ring! Whether you've just purchased your first Ring product or you're a long-time customer, congratulations on adding to the ring of security around your home! Now that you've downloaded the Ring app, we'd like to take you on a guided tour of the command centre for all your Ring products. With the Ring app on your smartphone, tablet or computer, you're in complete control of your security.

Dashboard

The Dashboard is where all your most important information and controls regarding your Ring devices can be found and is the first screen you'll see when your Ring app opens up.

What you see on your Dashboard depends on the devices you have set up. Here's what you'll see if you have one Video Doorbell:

  • Menu icon:
This icon is always in the same place in the upper-left corner of the app. Tapping on it will open the side menu and give you access to the rest of the app's functions.
  • Location:
When you first install a Ring device, you'll be asked to place it in a Location. Locations are internal groupings that allow you to sort your Ring devices based on their physical location. If, for example, you have cameras at both your home and your office, Locations allow you to move easily between each group of cameras.
  • History:
Tap these to see the most recent events for each Ring device. Simply tap on any of the events to go to the recording of that event (if you have a Ring Protect plan). You can also change the display to only show doorbell rings, motion alerts or Live View recordings.
  • Discover:
Tap to enable new features or learn more about them in the Help Centre.
  • Set Up a Device:
Tap to set up a new Video Doorbell, Security Camera, Chime, Alarm component or other Ring product.

Side menu

The side menu is where you'll be able to access the Ring app's other functions. In order to access the side menu, simply tap the menu icon in the upper-left hand corner. To return to the main screen, tap the menu icon again.

These are the functions that can be accessed from the side menu:

  • Dashboard:
Tap to return to the dashboard.
  • Devices:
This control brings you to a more detailed version of all the devices based at this Location.
  • History:
This control takes you to the History screen, a more detailed version of the History you can find on the main dashboard. Like that screen, the History screen lists out the most recent events that have happened to your Ring devices. Simply tap on any of the notifications to go to the recording of that event (if you have a Ring Protect Plus plan). You can also change the display to only show doorbell rings, Motion Alerts or Live View recordings and check out Security Camera and Alarm events separately.
  • Settings:
Takes you to General Settings and Location Settings, including Modes, Alarm Alerts and Shared Access. From Shared Access you can decide who has access to your devices and how much control they have over your system.
  • Set Up a Device:
Tap to set up a new Video Doorbell, Security Camera, Chime, Alarm component or other Ring product.
