Camera Previews information

Camera Previews are the still images you see when you first open the Ring app, from each of your Ring video doorbells and security cameras. Each one is labelled with a time duration or a date, to let you know when the device took the image.

How do Camera Previews work?

Every time you open your Ring app, you will see a recent image from each of your Ring Video Doorbells and Security Cameras.

If you see something that requires your attention, you can tap on an image to go to the Event History timeline for that device, where you can see Live View and, if you have a Ring Protect plan, your recordings.

You can tap on the History tile at the top of the Dashboard to see recordings from all of your devices if you have a Ring Protect plan.

Do Camera Previews reduce battery life for my Ring devices or mobile data usage?

Camera previews do not have a noticeable impact on battery life or data usage.

Why do some Camera Previews seem to take longer to load than others?

Cameras connected to a constant power source such as Ring Video Doorbell Pro and Ring Floodlight Cam Wired Plus will generate camera images quickly because they are constantly checking to see if the app has requested a new image. Battery-operated devices such as Ring Battery Video Doorbell Plus or Spotlight Cam Battery will wait for a request from the app to generate an image to help conserve battery life.
