Yes! The doorbell is designed for completely wire-free installation using the included rechargeable battery. If you have existing doorbell wires, you can connect it to existing doorbell wiring (8-24VAC, 10-40VA max 50/60hz) for hardwired power (Professional installation required).
What are my charging options?
The Battery Video Doorbell Plus (2nd Gen) offers flexible charging options to suit your needs. You can charge using the included USB cable or connect to existing doorbell wires for always on power. The removable battery design also allows you to purchase a spare battery. Either a second unit of the Quick Release Battery Pack or the new Quick Release Ultra Battery Pack, also compatible with Battery Video Doorbell Plus (2nd Gen), for uninterrupted coverage during charging.
What's the difference between daytime and nighttime video quality?
The doorbell maintains consistent 2K resolution (1920x1920) throughout all lighting conditions. During daytime, you'll see full colour, HDR-enhanced video. In low light conditions, true colour low light sight works down to 0.25 lux, and in complete darkness, infrared night vision with adaptive brightness ensures clear footage.
How do I know when to charge the battery?
The Ring app provides comprehensive battery monitoring, including real-time battery level display, low battery notifications, historical battery usage data, and estimated remaining battery life. We recommend initiating a charge when the battery level reaches 20% to ensure uninterrupted coverage.
What's the difference between a built-in battery and quick release battery?
A built-in battery, like the one in Battery Video Doorbell (2nd Gen), requires removing the entire device from the wall mount to recharge.
A quick-release battery, on the other hand, allows you to keep the device mounted while you remove and recharge just the battery. With a spare battery pack, you can enjoy uninterrupted coverage while charging.
Can I still use existing doorbell wires?
Yes! When connected to existing doorbell wiring (8-24VAC), you'll benefit from always-on hardwired power, mechanical chime functionality, and extended battery life. Remember, wiring is entirely optional and not required for accessing any of the doorbell's features.

Do I need a Ring Protect subscription?
No. You can still use Battery Video Doorbell Plus to watch over your home and answer the door from anywhere, even without a subscription to Ring Protect. Without Ring Protect, you’ll still receive instant notifications when anyone comes to your door, and you can answer the notification to see, hear and speak to visitors in real time right from your mobile device.
However, without a subscription to Ring Protect, you won’t be able to review any videos that you missed in real time, and you won’t be able to save your videos or share them with anyone. How much video history is stored?
With a Ring Protect plan, you can access up to 180 days of video history, depending on your subscription level.
1Free trial is not applicable for locations with an existing subscription. Your free trial begins as soon as you activate your Ring product.
2Subscription required (sold separately). Your Ring motion event videos in the cloud are stored temporarily, up to 180 days (depending on user's storage settings). Changing your video storage time will only affect videos that are recorded after you adjust your storage time setting.
3Subscription required (sold separately). Package Alerts (available for select Ring video doorbells and cameras) work best with medium-to-large shipping boxes.
