X Line Lifetime Basic Plan and Warranty Information
Important note: Effective November 17, 2025, Ring has relaunched the X-Line Lifetime subscription program, offering premium device features through professional security installers and authorized dealers.
As of 11/5/24, Ring has ended production of X Line products. Existing X Line customers will keep their Ring Lifetime Basic Plan (formerly Ring Protect Lifetime Basic Plan), and X Line devices will continue to be covered under the three-year warranty.
What is the Ring Lifetime Basic Plan?
The Ring Lifetime Basic Plan provides video event saving and sharing for any Ring doorbell or security camera sold in an X Line package. The Ring Lifetime Basic Plan is specific to your individual device and only covers its useful lifetime. If you replace your device under a warranty claim, your plan will transfer over to the replacement device for its useful lifetime. There is no monthly or annual recurring subscription payment.
Does the Ring Lifetime Basic Plan cover every Ring device at my home?
No. The Ring Lifetime Basic Plan that is purchased with an X Line bundle specifically applies only to the device included with the bundle.
Can I purchase a Ring Lifetime Basic Plan for my other Ring devices?
No. The Ring Lifetime Basic Plan is only available for with the purchase of an X Line bundles. To get coverage for your other devices, subscribe to a Ring Home Plan. Learn more.
If I move and take my X Line bundle with me, will my Ring Lifetime Basic Plan follow me?
Yes. The Ring Lifetime Basic Plan is specifically attached to the applicable device in your X Line bundle and will automatically transfer to the new location as soon as you set up your device.
Is there a difference between the three-year limited warranty offered with an X Line bundle and Ring’s standard one-year limited warranty?
No. The terms and conditions of both warranties are the same. The main difference is the duration of the limited warranty period.
If I have to replace my X Line bundle’s device under the three-year warranty, does the Ring Lifetime Basic Plan transfer to the new device? Will I be able to retain my video event recordings?
Yes. Should you need a replacement device while under your three-year warranty, simply contact Ring Customer Support and arrange for a replacement. You will need to keep your original device on your account until you’ve received and set up the replacement device. At that time, the Ring Lifetime Basic Plan will transfer to the new device and your videos will be retained in your Ring account.
What happens if I sell my X Line bundle’s device? Does the Ring Lifetime Basic Plan go with it?
Yes. The Ring Lifetime Basic Plan is attached to a device, not your Ring account. When the transfer of the device takes place, the previous X Line Lifetime Basic Plan will be canceled and a new one will be issued to the purchasing party.
What happens to my video recordings if I cancel my Ring Lifetime Basic Plan?
When you cancel a Ring Home subscription, all of your recorded videos will be permanently deleted. To save any videos, you must download them before canceling your plan. Use this link for step-by-step instructions on downloading videos. You'll also lose all other plan benefits. Please contact Ring Customer Support to cancel. There is no refund available from Ring for canceling your Ring Lifetime Basic Plan.
If I cancel my Ring Lifetime Basic Plan on my device, can I reinstate it later?
To renew your Ring Lifetime Basic Plan, you will have to set up the X Line bundle again under the same account.
How do I return an X Line bundle?
If you are owner of the device, you will have to work directly with your professional installer.
Understanding the Ring X-Line Lifetime subscription
The Ring X-Line Lifetime subscription is a premium, one-time subscription that provides advanced features for your Ring doorbell or security camera for the device's useful lifetime. Unlike monthly or annual subscriptions, X-Line requires no recurring payments. X-Line is compatible with Ring doorbells and security cameras; your installer can confirm compatibility for your specific device model.

Activating X-Line for your Ring device
X-Line is available exclusively through Ring-authorized professional installers, and dealers participating in Ring's business-to-business channel programs (Amazon Business, Pro Channel Distribution) can sell X-Line. It cannot be purchased directly by consumers through ring.com or retail stores. For X-Line activation or purchase questions, contact a Ring-authorized professional installer.
To activate X-Line:
- Ask your installer to purchase an X-Line voucher from Ring or an authorized dealer.
- During installation, your installer can use the voucher code to activate X-Line on your device.
- After your device is set up, X-Line features activate automatically.
Important note: X-Line must be activated by your professional installer. If your installer goes out of business, your X-Line Subscription remains active on your device
X-Line coverage for multiple devices
Each X-Line Subscription covers one specific device only. If you have multiple Ring devices at your home and want X-Line features on all of them, your installer must activate X-Line separately for each device using individual voucher codes.
To get coverage for additional devices:
- Ask your installer about adding X-Line to other devices during installation.
- Subscribe to a Ring Home Plan for devices without X-Line.
Adding X-Line to existing Ring devices
X-Line is available only through professional installers at the time of installation or service. If you already own Ring devices and want to add X-Line, contact a Ring-authorized professional installer. They can assess whether X-Line can be added to your existing devices based on device compatibility and installer participation.
Moving with your X-Line device
X-Line is attached to your specific device, not your location. Your subscription automatically transfers when you move.
When relocating:
- Take your X-Line device with you.
- Set up the device at your new location.
- X-Line features automatically transfer with the device.
Warranty replacement for X-Line devices
Your X-Line Subscription transfers to the replacement device during warranty service.
Warranty replacement process:
- to arrange warranty replacement.
- Keep your original device on your account until you receive the replacement.
- Set up your replacement device on the same Ring account.
- X-Line automatically transfers to the new device.
- Important note: Do not remove the original device from your account until the replacement is set up, or X-Line might not transfer properly.
- Your video recordings are retained in your Ring account.
Selling or transferring your X-Line device
X-Line transfers with the device to the new owner. The subscription is attached to the device, not your Ring account.
What happens during transfer:
- The new owner receives the X-Line Subscription automatically.
- Your previous X-Line Subscription will be canceled.
- A new X-Line Subscription will be issued to the new owner's account.
You cannot keep X-Line when selling the device, and you cannot transfer X-Line to a different device.
Canceling your X-Line subscription
You can cancel your X-Line subscription at any time. To cancel, Contact Ring Customer Support.
Important points to review before canceling:
- Download any videos you want to keep. All recorded videos will be permanently deleted..
- Upon cancellation, you will no longer have access to X-Line premium features.
- X-Line is a one-time purchase and no refunds are available.
- If you want X-Line features back after canceling, you must contact a professional installer to purchase a new X-Line voucher. The installer would need to reactivate the device with a new voucher code. This is treated as a new activation and is subject to installer availability and Ring policies.
Returning a device with X-Line
All returns for professionally installed Ring devices with X-Line must be processed through your original installer. Each installer maintains their own return terms and policies. For information on returning an X-Line device, contact the installer who sold and activated the device and follow the instructions designated by your installer according to their terms.
