Setting up your replacement Ring Alarm Base Station
Learn how to set up your replacement Ring Alarm Base Station and resolve issues during set up.
Important note: Only one Base Station can be used at each address.
Upgrading or replacing with a Ring Alarm Pro Base Station
When setting up your replacement Pro Base Station, the Ring app will transfer your existing Alarm devices and settings. Do not remove or disconnect your previous Base Station during this process. Your old Base Station must stay powered on, connected to the internet, and registered. This allows the backup and transfer to complete. If your previous Base Station is offline, follow the steps for Base Station Gen 1 and Gen 2.
Transferring from an online Base Station
What transfers automatically:
- Z-Wave devices and settings transfer to your new system.
What you need to set up again:
What happens to your old Base Station:
- The app removes your old Base Station from your Ring account after it transfers your devices and settings.
- This process resets the old Base Station to factory settings and removes all your information.
- Settings for non-Z-Wave smart home devices will not be transferred to your new system.
Important note: Your Alarm must be disarmed1 before you begin the setup process.
Setting up your replacement Pro Base Station
To set up your new Pro Base Station:
- Open the Ring app to the main dashboard.
- Select the Location that has the Ring Alarm Base Station you want to replace.
- Tap Set Up a Device at the bottom of the screen.
- TapSet up a Ring Alarm Base Station or Z-Wave Sensor.
- Follow the steps and agree to back up your existing Ring Alarm devices and settings.
- When you’ve finished setting up your Pro Base Station, and all settings have been restored,.
Replacing with a Base Station Gen 1 and Gen 2
Learn how to set up your new Base Station Gen 1, Gen 2, or replace a Pro Base Station that is offline.
Remove the Base Station from your account
If the Base Station is already removed from your Ring account, move to the next step.
To remove your existing Base Station:
- Open the Ring app to the main dashboard.
- Tap the Alarm tile under Devices.
- Tap your device's Settings.
- Tap theDevice Settingstile.
- TapAdvanced Options.
- TapUnregister system.
- TapUnregisterto remove this Base Station.
Set up the new Base Station
Have your wifi password ready and turn on Bluetooth on your phone before you begin.
- Open the Ring app to the main dashboard.
- Tap Set Up a Device at the bottom of the screen.
- TapSet up a Ring Alarm Base Station or Z-wave Sensor.
- Follow the in-app instructions to complete the setup. When prompted, press the pairing button on the rear of your Base Station.
Once your Base Station connects to the internet, it might take a few minutes to update its software. Look for a solid blue light ring on the Base Station. Then continue to the next step.

Factory reset each Alarm device

Add each Alarm device to your new Base Station
Before you add your Ring devices, make sure each device is near your new Base Station.
To connect each Alarm device to your replacement Ring Alarm Base Station:
- Open the Ring app to the main dashboard.
- Tap Set Up a Device at the bottom of the screen.
- Follow the in-app setup to complete installation.
You'll need to scan the QR code for each device. Then name it and assign it to a room in your home.
