24/7 Recording

With 24/7 Recording, compatible Ring Security Cameras can record audio and video continuously, day and night — not just when motion occurs.

This feature requires a Ring Home Premium subscription.

Note: 24/7 Recording is limited to 10 devices at one location. 24/7 recordings are temporarily stored in the cloud, up to 14 days. This feature is dependent upon network connectivity and other factors. Compatible cameras (when hardwired or plugged in):

  • Stick Up Cam (3rd Gen)
  • Stick Up Cam Pro
  • Indoor Cam (2nd Gen)
  • Pan-Tilt Indoor Cam

Things to know

Check your local laws. Before using 24/7 Recording, check the laws in your local jurisdiction to see if there may be legal restrictions around using this 24/7 video and/or audio recording. More internet use. Like all videos captured by Ring devices, 24/7 Recording continuous videos are stored in the cloud, and may cause your Ring device to use more of your internet bandwidth daily. Additional data rates and service fees may apply. Check your plan with your internet service provider to learn more. Keep your Ring device plugged in. 24/7 Recording can only be turned on if your Ring camera is plugged in to continuous power. Ensure your Ring camera stays plugged in to use 24/7 Recording. The blue light will remain on. With 24/7 Recording turned on, the blue indicator light on your Ring camera will stay on without interruption because your camera is recording continuously. 24/7 Recording will not work with other select features turned on. At this time, 24/7 Recording is not compatible with End-to-End Encryption. You’ll need to turn this off before using 24/7 Recording. Update your Ring app. Make sure you update your Ring app to the latest version to use 24/7 Recording.

Turn on 24/7 Recording

In the Ring app:

  1. From the main dashboard, tap the more icon (•••) for your device.
  2. Tap

24/7 Recording video timeline

With 24/7 Recording turned on, you can use its dynamic timeline to zoom in and out with Timescale, see Events as markers, and save video for later from the Ring app or on Ring.com. Pinch to zoom in or out on the timeline with Timescale (available only in the Ring app). Browse through your continuous recorded video minute by minute, or hour by hour to see events with precise detail. Pinch and expand the timeline on screen to zoom in. Pinch and contract the timeline on screen to zoom out. Slide side-to-side to move the timeline toward the present or past. See your Events as markers on the timeline. While recording continuously, all types of Events will be highlighted on your Timeline with markers including: Motion and Person Events, Live View Started Events, and Linked Device Events. Adjust your Motion Settings to make sure you’re getting the Motion Alerts you want. To access your Timeline, tap the camera preview for your device on the Ring app home screen. Store your videos to review later. With 24/7 Recording, you can use 24/7 Video Storage Time to save your videos for up to 14 days. Motion Events and all other Event types will be saved according to your existing Event Video Storage Time setting for your Ring device, and can be stored up to 180 days.

Turn video recording on and off

Quickly turn Recording on or off in the Ring app:

  1. From the main dashboard, tap the more icon (•••) for your device.
  2. Deselect the camera icon to turn off Recording.
  3. Reselect the camera icon to turn it back on.

When Recording is turned off, Motion Events and video won’t be recorded continuously. To turn off audio recording, update the settings for your Ring device from the Ring app. Camera Icon On: Your device will record 24/7 Recording and Motion Events continuously. Camera Icon Off: Your device will not record 24/7 Recording or Motion Events. It will only record when you turn on Live View, or if you’ve set up any Linked Events.

Change your Recording Mode to Motion-Based Recording

You can turn off 24/7 Recording any time by switching back to the previous Motion-Based Recording. In the Ring app:

  1. From the main dashboard, tap the more icon (•••) for your device.
  2. Tap
    Settings

    Video Settings.
  4. Tap
    Recording Mode

    Motion-Based Recording

With Motion-Based Recording turned on, continuous video recording with 24/7 Recording will be turned off, and all video recorded with 24/7 Recording will be hidden from the timeline. To view video previously recorded with 24/7 Recording, turn the feature back on. All event types will be recorded as single events. If previously turned on, Snapshot Capture will automatically be turned back on. Camera Icon On: Your device will record Motion Events. Camera Icon Off: Your device will only record when you turn on Live View, or if you’ve set up any Linked Events.

Use 24/7 Recording with Home and Away Modes

If you’ve set up Disarmed, Home and Away Modes1 for your Ring device, the 24/7 Recording feature will follow the recording preferences you set for each mode to better fit your needs. For example, if you’ve set your Ring device to record video in Home and Away modes, but not in Disarmed mode, recording will pause while in Disarmed mode, motion will not be detected and continuous recording will not occur.

How to download video with 24/7 Recording

From your 24/7 Recording timeline, select any point in time to download a video up to 10 minutes long. In the Ring app:

  1. From the main dashboard, tap on your device’s camera preview to open your timeline.
  2. Slide the timeline to where you want the video to start.
  3. Tap
    More
    (•••).
  4. Tap
    Download
    .
  5. Use the slider to create your video start and end point. As you move the slider, you’ll see a video preview.
  6. When finished, tap
    Continue
    .
  7. Your video will be saved to your mobile device.

On Ring.com:

  1. Open 24/7 Timeline.
  2. Click
    Manage
    .
  3. Select the time frame you would like to download (1 minute or 10 minutes)
  4. Click
    Share
    .

Share video with 24/7 Recording

You can select a starting point in your video timeline and share a video up to 10 minutes in length. In the Ring app:

  1. From the main dashboard, tap on your device’s camera preview to open your Event History Timeline.
  2. Slide the timeline to where you want the video to start.
  3. Tap
    Share
    .
  4. Use the slider to create your video start and end point. As you move the slider, you’ll see a video preview.
  5. When finished, tap
    Continue
    .
  6. Choose where you wish to share your video.
  7. A share link will then be generated for you.

On Ring.com:

  1. Open 24/7 Timeline.
  2. Click
    Manage
    .
  3. Select the time frame you would like to share (1 minute or 10 minutes)
  4. Click
    Share
    .

Delete video with 24/7 Recording

Delete select Events — or delete video in 15 minute, 1 hour, or 24 hour segments from continuous recorded video or any other video in your timeline. In the Ring app:

  1. From the main dashboard, tap on your device’s camera preview to open your Timeline.
  2. Select the moment in the Timeline you want to start deleting.
  3. Tap
    More
    (•••).
  4. Tap
    Delete
    .
  5. Choose
    Selected Event for 1 minute, 15 minutes
    ,
    1 hour
    , or
    Entire day
    .
  6. Tap the
    Delete
    button to confirm.

When the video is deleted, you’ll notice a gap in the timeline. On Ring.com:

  1. Open 24/7 Timeline
  2. Click
    Manage
    .
  3. Choose
    Selected Event
    ,
    15 minutes
    ,
    1 hour
    , or
    Entire day
  4. Click
    Delete
    .

Troubleshoot 24/7 Recording

Are you seeing gaps in your continuous video recording or missing Motion Events? Here are a few things to try: Ensure you have a strong wifi connection. 24/7 Recording requires a stable internet connection as it records, uploads and saves continuous video to your Ring account. Learn more about how you can improve signal strength and test your wifi connection . Adjust your Motion Settings. If you’re seeing inconsistent activity or some Motion Events are not highlighted on your timeline, check your motion settings for Smart Alerts, Sensitivity, and Motion Zones to ensure you’re getting the Motion Alerts you want. Make sure your Ring device is plugged in to power. 24/7 Recording cannot be turned on while your Ring camera is using battery or solar power. If unplugged and on battery power, the 24/7 Recording feature will still record if previously turned on, but it may drain your battery faster. Check if your Recording Mode is set to 24/7 Recording. From the main app dashboard, tap more (•••) on your device’s camera preview. Tap Settings » Video Settings » Recording Mode. Make sure to select 24/7 Recording. Switch to Motion-Based Recording and back to 24/7 Recording. Follow the steps above. Reboot your Ring device. If the above steps have not been successful and your Ring camera is connected to wifi, try rebooting your Ring camera in the Ring app. Note: When 24/7 Recording is turned on, certain features will turn off. Pre-Roll and Snapshot Capture will automatically be turned off when 24/7 Recording is turned on as they're replaced by continuous video recording.
