Turning off video recording for your Ring device

You can completely disable the motion recording function on your Ring device by toggling off the Motion Detection control in your Ring app. 

1. Open your Ring app
2. Tap the menu icon (

   ≡

   ) in the top left corner
3. Tap

   Devices
4. Tap the device you want to adjust
5. On the device dashboard, toggle the

   Motion Detection

   slider to off.
6. Tap

   Stop Recording

   .
7. To turn motion detection back on, toggle the

   Motion Detection

   slider on.

When the Motion Detection function on your Ring device is turned on, it will make a note of any motion in its field of view. Then, it’ll show up in your device's Event History.

What's the difference between the Motion Detection and Motion Alerts toggles?

While the Motion Detection toggle controls recording when your device detects motion, the Motion Alerts toggle controls notifications when your device detects motion. When turned off, you will not receive notifications. However, your device's motion detection will still be turned on and any motion it detects will still be recorded in Event History.
