Using Event History and Event Summary

Event History is a video timeline that provides easy access to all events recorded¹ by your Video Doorbells or Security Cameras with a Ring Protect subscription (sold separately). Event History features icons on a timeline, letting you know when certain events happened.

Event Summary (only available with Ring Protect Plus) lets you see a daily digest of all the events and recordings at your location.

Types of events

Event types may vary, depending on your device(s).

  • Missed ring (Video Doorbells)
  • Answered ring (Video Doorbells)
  • Motion
  • Live View
  • Person detected
  • Linked Device

With a Ring Protect subscription you also get access to Snapshot Capture², which are recurring photo snapshots taken throughout the day that appear in your Event History.

View your Event History

To see your Event History timeline for an individual device:

  1. Tap menu ☰ on the top left.
  2. Tap
    Devices
    .
  3. Tap a device.
  4. Tap
    Event History
    .

To see your Event History for all devices:

  1. Tap menu ☰ on the top left.
  2. Tap
    History
    .

Filter events in your Event History

To filter events, tap the Events drop-down in the Ring app. Then choose Ring, Motion, Live View, Linked Devices, or Favourite. Then tap Filter Events.

View your Event Summary

To see your Event Summary (only available with Ring Protect Plus) in the Ring app:

  1. Tap
    menu
    ☰ on the top left.
    Note:
    Make sure you have selected a specific location at the top of the menu, and not All Cameras. To select a location, tap the dropdown at the top of the menu.
  2. Tap
    History
    .
  3. Tap the three dots on the top right to access the more menu.
  4. Tap
    Event Summary
    .

¹ Your Ring videos are stored in the cloud for up to 180 days. Changing your video storage time will only affect videos that are recorded after you adjust your storage time setting. Check Ring Protect plans for more information.

² Snapshot Capture photos are stored in the cloud for 7 days if you have a Ring Protect Basic subscription, and up to 14 days if you have a Ring Protect Plus subscription.
