Set up Sound Detection

If you have a Ring Protect Plus subscription, your Wired Video Doorbell Pro (formerly Video Doorbell Pro 2) or Floodlight Cam Wired Pro can use Sound Detection in addition to Motion Detection and send app notifications¹ when they detect certain sounds.² The recordings of these events will also appear as entries in your Event History and Event Summary.³

Find out which doorbell or security camera you have in the Ring app.

Important: Sound Detection is currently only available for some users. You'll see a Sound Detection tile on your device dashboard in the Ring app if it is available for you and your device.

How to set up Sound Detection in the Ring app

For each device you want to set up Sound Detection for:

1. Tap

   menu (≡)

   on the top left.
2. Tap

   Devices

   .
3. Tap your Video Doorbell Pro 2 or Floodlight Cam Wired Pro.
4. Tap

   Sound Detection

   .
5. Toggle on the sounds you want to receive notifications and recordings for.
6. (Optional) Adjust your device’s sound detection sensitivity to low, medium or high.

You can review, share and delete your Sound Detection recordings from Event History. Learn how to share, unshare and delete recordings.

Troubleshooting notifications

If you’re not receiving notifications, make sure that:

• Your device is

  connected to wifi
• Your

  Ring notifications are enabled in your mobile device settings
• Audio Streaming and Recording is turned on in the Ring app for each device that is using Sound Detection:

1. Tap

   on the top left.
2. Tap

   Devices

   .
3. Tap your Video Doorbell Pro 2 or Floodlight Cam Wired Pro.
4. Tap

   Device Settings.
5. Tap

   Privacy Settings.
6. Toggle on

   Audio Streaming and Recording.

¹ Requires Ring app notifications to be enabled in your mobile device settings. Learn more.

² Your device detects sounds, such as car alarms and dog barks, by identifying matching acoustic patterns. As a result, it may not detect all variations of a specific sound.

³ Your device initiates audio and video recording when it detects one of your selected sounds. Ring does not store or send audio or video to the cloud unless the device detects a selected sound, or it is capturing a motion or ring event.
