How to physically install your Ring Video Doorbell with an existing doorbell
Follow these instructions to replace your existing doorbell with a Ring Video Doorbell.
Note: You should set up your Ring Video Doorbell in the Ring app before mounting it to your door.
Ring Video Doorbell (1st Gen) includes an optional diode, while other Ring doorbells do not require one.
Remove your existing doorbell button
Shut off power to your doorbell at the breaker. Then, remove your existing doorbell button and disconnect the wires.
WARNING: Electrical shock hazard. Disconnect power to installation area at your circuit breaker or fuse box before beginning installation. Always use caution when handling electrical wiring. Installation by a qualified electrician may be required in your area. Refer to your local laws and building codes before performing electrical work. Permits plus professional installation may be required by law.
Mount the bracket
- Click the level tool (included in the box) into the mounting bracket.
- Place the mounting bracket so that you can access the wires for power.
- Level the mounting bracket using the level tool.
- Drive the screws into the holes.
- If mounting on a masonry surface, use the mounting bracket as a template to mark pilot holes.
- Drill holes and insert the anchors.
- Remove the level tool from the mounting bracket.
Connect the wires
Connect the wires to the screws on the mounting bracket. It doesn't matter which order the wires are connected, just be sure the wires don't touch each other.
For digital doorbells, install the included diode.
Place your Ring Video Doorbell on the mounting bracket
Line up the tabs from the mounting bracket to the slots on the back of your Ring Video Doorbell. Don't be afraid to use a little force.
Tighten security screws
Use the included security screwdriver to tighten the two security screws to the bottom of the Ring Video Doorbell.
