How to Use Bird's Eye Zones

On select Ring devices, you can set up Custom Motion Zones and turn on radar-enabled Bird's Eye Zones for more precise Motion Alerts – so you can get notified about activity in your front garden, not the pavement.

Bird's Eye Zones checklist

To get the most out of Bird's Eye Zones, we recommend the following actions:

  • Create
    in the Ring app
  • Turn on
    Bird's Eye Zones
    in the Ring app (see below)
  • Set
    to block out areas in your camera's field of view

How to set up Bird's Eye Zones in the Ring app

  1. Open the Ring app to the main dashboard.

  2. Tap more (•••) on the camera you want to access.

  3. Tap your device's Settings.

  4. Tap 
    Motion Settings
    .
  5. Tap 
    Set Up Zones
    on the map at the top or
    Bird's Eye Zones
    below it
  6. Tap
    Set Up Feature
  7. Tap
    Continue
    .
  8. When prompted, confirm the address where your Ring device is installed. Then tap
    Continue
    .
  9. Then select the location where your Ring device is installed on your property. Then tap
    Continue
    .
  10. Move the slider to match the zone with the camera's field of view. Then tap
    Continue
    .
  11. Set the Mounting Height of how high your Ring device is installed from the ground. Then tap
    Continue
    .
  12. Customize your Bird's Eye Zones by tapping
    Set up Zones
    . Tap 
    Continue
    .
  13. Adjust the zone by dragging the circles. Tap 
    Continue
    .
  14. Tap
    Add Zone.
    Repeat for two additional zones if necessary, depending on your home configuration. Tap Continue to save your zones
  15. Name the zone and tap
    Done
  16. Test Bird's Eye Zones by walking to the edge of your motion detection area 
  17. Adjust zone range if necessary.

Note: The radar technology that powers Bird's Eye Zones may be affected by weather changes, obstacles, reflections, wifi connectivity and other factors.

How to edit Bird's Eye Zones in the Ring app

  1. Open the Ring app to the main dashboard.

  2. Tap more (•••) on the camera you want to access.

  3. Tap your device's Settings.

  4. Tap 
    Motion Settings
    .
  5. Tap
    Edit Zones
    .
  6. Adjust a zone by tapping it and dragging the circles to customize.
  7. Tap
    Done,
    then
    Save

If you choose Skip for now default zones will be used, covering an area up to 30 ft from your device.

How to turn Bird's Eye Zones off in the Ring app

  1. Open the Ring app to the main dashboard.

  2. Tap more (•••) on the camera you want to access.

  3. Tap your device's Settings.

  4. Tap 
    Motion Settings
  5. Tap
    Bird's Eye Zones
  6. Toggle
    Bird's Eye Zones
    off

For Video Doorbells:

With Use Bird’s Eye Zones toggled off, radar detection will remain on. You will receive motion notifications when the radar and camera detect motion within your Camera Motion Zones, up to 30 ft from your device.

For Security Cameras:

With Use Bird’s Eye Zones toggled off, radar detection will also be turned off. You will receive motion notifications when the camera detects motion within your Camera Motion Zones, which may reach beyond 30 ft from your device.
