Ring Video Doorbell (1st Generation) on a modern home's front door.

Video Doorbell (1st Gen) Setup Mode

When setting up your Ring Video Doorbell (1st Generation), you'll be asked to put the device into Setup Mode.

When any Ring product is in Setup Mode, it broadcasts a temporary Ring wifi network.

During the setup process, the Ring app will connect to this wifi network first to allow your Ring product to connect to your home wifi network. As soon as your Ring product has been set up in the Ring app, it will stop broadcasting this wifi network, and stay connected to your home network.

Your Ring Video Doorbell (1st Generation) should automatically go into Setup Mode the first time it receives power.

You'll know your Ring Video Doorbell is in Setup Mode when the light on the front of the Video Doorbell is spinning.

How to performing a hard reset

If the light doesn't start spinning when you push the orange button, try performing a hard reset:

  1. Hold down the orange button for 20 seconds.
  2. After releasing it, the light on the front will flash a few times indicating that your Ring Video Doorbell is restarting.
    Note:
It may take a minute to fully complete this process.
  3. Then, put the Ring Video Doorbell in Setup Mode again, by firmly pressing and then releasing the orange button on the back.
