Troubleshooting your Ring Mobile Security Tower
Learn how to troubleshoot power, setup, or connectivity issues with your Ring Mobile Security Tower.
For persistent issues that the below troubleshooting steps do not resolve, contact Ring Customer Support with your unit serial number.
The Mobile Security Tower is not going into setup mode
Verify that the lights turn on from both the Tower and the camera after being powered on.
If both lights come on:
- Quickly press the setup button on the Tower four times to reboot it, then attempt to put the Tower into setup mode.
- If the reboot does not work, power cycle the Tower by flipping the breakers to the OFF position for 1 minute, then flipping them back to the ON position.
If the lights on the Tower or camera do not turn on, troubleshoot for potential power issues.
The Mobile Security Tower will not connect in the Ring app
- Stay within 10 feet (about 3 meters) of the Tower.
- Allow Bluetooth access when prompted.
- Disconnect from other Bluetooth devices (headphones, speakers).
- Verify cellular data service is available at your location, or use a 2.4 GHz wifi network.
The camera is not detected after re-registration
- Confirm the camera cables clicked into place (indicator pointing to the lock symbol).
- Verify the camera QR code is being scanned correctly.
- Power cycle the Tower by flipping the breakers to the OFF position for 1 minute, then flipping them back to the ON position.
The Mobile Security Tower will not complete a factory restore
When the Mobile Security Tower completes a factory restore, both the Tower and the camera will show red solid or blinking lights.
If the Tower will not complete a factory restore:
- Quickly press the setup button on the Tower four times to reboot it, then attempt to put the Tower into setup mode.
- If the reboot does not work, power cycle the Tower by flipping the breakers to the OFF position for 1 minute, then flipping them back to the ON position.
- Remove the top cover of the floodlights, and slightly loosen the screws holding the floodlights to the camera.
The Mobile Security Tower is not booting up, or the Tower and camera are both offline
- Make sure that the batteries in the Tower are on and charged with at least two LED dots lighting up.
- If the batteries are low, plug the Tower into a power outlet and recharge the batteries, then test it again.
- Verify that the breakers are flipped to the ON position.
- If the Tower is plugged in, verify that the cable is connected and receiving power from the outlet.
- Make sure that there are no unattached cables inside of the Base. There should only be unattached cables in the scenarios below:
- You are not using the Side Solar Panels with your Mobile Security Tower.
- You are not using additional batteries in Slot 2 and Slot 3 of the Base.
- Power cycle the Tower by flipping the breakers to the OFF position for one minute, then flipping them back to the ON position.
The Mobile Security Tower is online, but the camera is offline
- Make sure that the batteries in the Tower are on and charged with at least two LED dots lighting up.
- If the batteries are low (one LED dot or less than 5% in the Ring app), the Tower will wait until the battery is charged more before powering on the camera. Plug the Tower into a power outlet and recharge the batteries, then test it again.
- Ensure that the Side Solar Panels are attached, or that the Tower is plugged in. The Top Solar Panel alone is not sufficient to recharge them both.
- Make sure that the camera's power and data cables inside of the Mast are plugged into the camera module.
- Make sure that the battery data cable is attached. The first battery needs to be connected to the electrical box, and the battery data terminator is attached to the last battery installed.
- Verify that only Ring-approved batteries are attached to the system. The system only operates with Ring-approved batteries and will disable the camera if the communication is not established.
- Verify that the battery data cable is installed. The first battery data cable must be connected to the battery "IN" port and the other end must be connected to the ethernet connector on the electrical box.
The Mobile Security Tower lights did not flash blue after powering on
- Wait at least 3 minutes.
- If still no blue flash after 5 minutes, power cycle the Tower by flipping the breakers to the OFF position for one minute, then flipping them back to the ON position.
- Rapidly press and release the setup button on the side of the Electrical Box four times to force setup mode.
The batteries are not charging through solar power
- Verify that the Device Health page of the Ring app shows the batteries in the Solar charging status.
- Verify that the Side Solar Panels are set up and wired correctly to the Base, with no unplugged Solar Panel power cables in the Base.
- Make sure that the Solar Panels are clean with no visible dust layer present, and facing direct sunlight for at least 4 to 5 hours a day.
- Make sure that the Solar Panels are not under partial or complete shade.
Solar panel cables will not connect
- Verify correct left and right assembly orientation, and panel polarity ('+' for top, '−' for bottom).
- Check that the MC4 connectors are clean and free of debris from storage, and seat until they click.
- Confirm red is on '+' and black is on '−' on the 3' extensions.
