Assembling the Side Solar Panels for your Ring Mobile Security Tower
What to know
The Side Solar Panel kit adds two additional Solar Panels to your Ring Mobile Security Tower (one for each side of the Tower).
Installation takes approximately 30 to 45 minutes with a helper and requires basic hand tools not included in the installation kit.
Before you begin
Required tools
- Phillips screwdriver
- Hex key or wrench for hardware
- Allen key for set screws
- A helper for positioning panels
Other requirements
- A flat, clean work surface and clear access to both sides of the Ring Mobile Security Tower
- Ring Mobile Security Tower must already be set up and positioned before installing the solar panels

Side Solar Panel installation
1. Install the aluminum tubes

- Remove the plastic plugs from the chassis, then insert the aluminum tubes into the frame. Make sure the cut-outs face each other.
- Insert the plastic plugs (85985K123) into the tube ends.
2. Insert the set pin

- Insert the set pin into the tubes to secure them.
3. Join the strut channel rails

- Insert a strut channel connector (1018255-MDC-001) between two pieces of strut channel rail. Make sure the holes are on the outer side of the rails.
- Tighten the screws on the strut channel connector firmly.
- Repeat for the second pair of rails. Each side of the chassis uses two joined rail sets.
4. Mount the joined rails onto the aluminum tubes

- Place the two sets of joined strut channel rails onto the aluminum tubes.
- Secure them onto the U-shaped clamp (11355T67) with screws (92290A868).
- Align the outer rail with the edge of the aluminum tube.
- Align the inner rail with the cut-out on the aluminum tube.
- You can use the provided nuts to secure the bolts to the rails.
5. Attach the mid-clamps

- Loosely attach the solar panel mid-clamps to the rails with screws (91292A142).
- Leave the mid-clamps loose enough to slide along the rails. You will position them in the next step.
6. Install the Solar Panels

- Place the Solar Panels onto the rails.
- Tighten the mid-clamps to secure the panels.
- Verify wiring polarity before fully tightening.
Caution: Polarity matters. If the panels are oriented incorrectly, the system will not charge properly. Confirm the "+" and "−" terminal positions before fully tightening the mid-clamps.
Correct polarity orientation:
- The "+" terminal must be on the top edge of the top solar panel.
- The "−" terminal must be at the bottom edge of the lowest solar panel.
7. Install the end-clamps

- Slide the assembled end-clamps, with screw (92290A230) and strut channel nut (3259T613), onto the ends of the rails.
- Tighten the screws.
8. Connect the wiring

- Connect the "+" and "−" wires that are adjacent to each other between the two panels.
- Attach the red 3 ft solar wire extension to the "+" terminal.
- Attach the black 3 ft solar wire extension to the "−" terminal.
- Feed the wires through the slots on the tubes.
9. Repeat for the other side

- Repeat all steps above on the opposite side of the chassis to install the second solar panel assembly.
10. Connect the cables inside the Base
Inside the Base you will find three Solar Panel cables, one for each panel. Each panel has red and black cables. The first set of cables are already pre-wired to the Solar Panel on the cover, and you will not need to connect them yourself.
- Connect the red extension cables you fed through the channels on Step 8 to available red cable connectors on the fork.
- Connect the black extension cables you fed through the channels on Step 8 to available black cable connectors on the fork.
Troubleshooting
Important note: For any issues not covered below, call Ring Business Support at 1-800-RING-HELP or visit business.ring.com/support. Have your device serial number and account info ready.
The tubes will not seat or the cut-outs do not line up.
Confirm both aluminum tubes are inserted so their cut-outs face each other. The rails depend on this orientation in a later step.
The rails do not sit flat on the tubes.
Check that the outer rail is at the edge of the tube and the inner rail aligns with the cut-out. If misaligned, loosen the U-clamps (11355T67), reposition, and re-tighten.
The mid-clamp will not tighten down evenly on the Solar Panel.
Make sure the panel frame is flat against the rail surface and the mid-clamp is squarely seated on the panel edge.
The polarity check fails after wiring.
- Confirm the top panel's "+" terminal is at the top edge.
- Confirm the bottom panel's "−" terminal is at the bottom edge.
- Verify red is connected to "+" and black to "−" on the 3 ft extensions.
The wires will not feed through the tube slots.
The tube cut-outs face inward (toward each other) after installation. If you cannot find the slot opening, check that you are feeding the wire on the inside-facing side of the tube.
