Setting up and using Victor® Smart Traps in the Ring app
Victor® Smart Trap connects to the Ring app through the Amazon Sidewalk network to send real-time activity alerts to your phone.
Setting up your Victor® Smart Trap in the Ring app
Before you begin
Step 1: Insert batteries and power on
- Insert two AAA batteries into the bottom of the Smart Base and replace the cover.
- Press and hold the button for two seconds to power on. The LED will flash green three times, then begin blinking green continuously. This means the device is in setup mode and ready to pair.
Important note: If the LED does not flash after inserting batteries and attempting to power on, make sure the batteries are properly seated and oriented correctly.
Step 2: Set up your device in the Ring app
- Open the Ring app to the main dashboard.
- TapSet Up a Deviceat the bottom of the screen.
- Scan the QR code on the bottom of your Victor® Smart Base. If the in-app scanner doesn’t work, try using your mobile device’s native camera to scan the code.
- Follow the in-app prompts to complete setup.
- The Ring app will connect Victor® Smart Base to the Amazon Sidewalk network. Stay within 20 feet of the device. The LED will continue blinking green during this process.
LED indicators during setup
LED behavior | Meaning | What to do |
Solid green for three seconds | Setup is complete. Your device is connected. | No action needed. The LED does not stay illuminated while idle. |
Three red flashes (medium-slow) | Setup failed. | Check that a Sidewalk gateway is nearby and try setup again. |
Three red flashes (quick) after 10 minutes | Setup timed out. | Remove the batteries, wait 10 seconds, re-insert the batteries, and restart the setup process. |
Step 3: Bait, set, and place your device
Victor® Smart Trap is designed for indoor or dry-area use only. Follow these steps to bait, set and place your device:
- Connect the trap to the Smart Base:Attach the Snap Trap onto the Smart Base. You’ll hear it click into place.
- Bait the trap:Place a small dab of peanut butter (pea-sized) in the bait cup. Using too much bait can let rodents feed without triggering the trap.
- Set the trap:Pull the metal catch bar back until it clicks. When the red bar is up, the trap is set.
- Place the trap:Place the trap where you’ve seen rodent activity. Position it flush against a wall along a known route.

Step 4: Complete the communication check
After you have placed Victor® Smart Trap in its final location, confirm it can communicate from that spot. The communication check can also be completed at any time after setup or when placing the Smart Base in a new location.
To complete the communication check:
- Tap the button on the Smart Base once.
- Check for the test completed push notification in the app and the LED response on the device.

Using your Victor® Smart Trap in the Ring app
Alerts from your Victor® Smart Trap
- Real-time alerts:When activity is detected, you’ll receive a push notification. Make sure push notifications are enabled in the Ring app.
- Shared User alerts:Add household members in the Ring app so everyone gets notified.
- Dark by design:The LED does not light while armed. This is intentional; it conserves battery and keeps the trap discreet.
Important note: You may receive an alert during initial setup while handling the trap. This is the vibration sensor doing its job. Once placed and left alone, alerts will only come from actual trap activity.
