What is Amazon Sidewalk? 

Amazon Sidewalk is a shared network that helps Ring devices stay online even when your internet is out. Check Amazon Sidewalk address coverage in your area. 

Sidewalk is enabled by default on Sidewalk-compatible devices unless you have previously turned the setting off. You can turn Sidewalk off at any time. See if your Ring device is Sidewalk-compatible. 

Sidewalk data cap 

The Sidewalk data cap is the maximum amount of data your account contributes per month to keep neighbor devices connected. When Sidewalk is enabled on your account, your gateway device might route a limited amount of traffic from nearby Sidewalk-enabled devices (neighbor devices) that are not on your account. This helps make sure those devices stay online and continue delivering notifications, even during internet or power outages. 

The data cap limits how much of your internet bandwidth Sidewalk can use to support neighbor devices each month. When the cap is reached, your gateway stops routing neighbor traffic until the next month. 

How the Sidewalk data cap is determined 

Amazon assesses the Sidewalk data cap annually to make sure it keeps pace with increased data use. The data cap will not exceed 0.15% of average US household data use for the prior year, which is less than streaming about 10 minutes of 4K video.

Turning Sidewalk on or off in the Ring app 

You can enable or disable Sidewalk directly from the Ring app. 

1. Open the Ring app to the main dashboard.
2. Tap the menu (☰).
3. Tap

   Control Center

   in the panel. 
4. Scroll down and tap

   Amazon Sidewalk

   . 
5. Tap the toggle button to turn on or off. 
6. A confirmation screen will appear. Tap to confirm. 

Turning Sidewalk on or off in your Ring account 

You can also manage Sidewalk from your Ring account on the web. 

1. Sign in to your Ring account

   at ring.com. 
2. When signed in, click the

   Dashboard

   home icon in the top navigation. 
3. Click

   Account

   then

   Control Center

   . 
4. On the left side panel, scroll down to

   Amazon Sidewalk

   . 
5. Click the toggle button to turn on or off. 
6. A confirmation screen will appear. Tap to confirm.
