Ring Video Doorbell 3 Plus on a modern home's front door.

Upgrading From Ring Video Doorbell 2 to Ring Video Doorbell 3 Plus

Bear in mind the differences between Ring Video Doorbell 2 to the Ring Video Doorbell 3 Plus for a seamless upgrade.

Diodes

When connected to an existing digital doorbell system, the Ring Video Doorbell 2 comes with a diode that must be installed when connecting the Ring Video Doorbell 2 with the doorbell. The Ring Video Doorbell 3 Plus has this diode included inside the product itself and does not need an external diode installed.

If you are upgrading from a Ring Video Doorbell 2 to a Ring Video Doorbell 3 Plus, please make sure to remove the diode from the wiring when you install the Ring Video Doorbell 3 Plus. Leaving the diode in may cause your new doorbell to not function properly.

Resistors

You should also remove any existing resistors when upgrading. Resistors are not needed when hardwiring a Ring Video Doorbell 3 Plus.
