How to Get Person Alerts and Other Smart Alerts

With Person Alerts, you can get notified when a person is detected in the field of view on select Ring doorbells and cameras.

This feature requires a compatible Ring Protect subscription.

How to manage Smart Alerts in the Ring app

Smart Alerts are available for battery-powered, solar, plug-in and wired Ring devices. 

To enable Smart Alerts:

  1. Tap the
    menu (≡)
    on the top left.
  2. Tap
    Devices
    .
  3. Tap the device that you want to adjust.
  4. Tap
    Motion Settings
    .
  5. Tap
    Smart Alerts
    .
  6. Tap
    Enable Feature
    .
  7. Tap
    Continue
    .
  8. Select the notification options that you want for
    Person
    and
    Other Motion
    .
    • You'll see a video camera where you can select or de-select recording and a bell icon to represent alert notifications.
  9. After you've adjusted your settings tap
    Done.

To access Smart Alerts once you've enabled them:

  1. Tap the
    menu (≡)
    on the top left.
  2. Tap
    Devices
    .
  3. Tap the device that you want to adjust.
  4. Tap
    Motion Settings
    .
  5. Tap
    Smart Alerts
    .

Note: If you only enable person detection on a plug-in or wired device, you may not be able to adjust the Motion Sensitivity slider.

If you only enable person detection and the camera is unable to identify whether a motion event contains people, due to lighting, weather or other conditions, you may see a motion alert on your timeline.
