Ring AI alert features information

AI Features is a menu option found in the Ring app, that allows you to manage AI Video Descriptions, AI Single Event Alert (beta), and AI Unusual Event Alert (beta) for Ring doorbells and cameras.

AI Video Descriptions

AI Video Descriptions adds detailed text to your Video Preview Alerts and in your Event History, helping you quickly scan through recordings.

When your Ring device detects motion or someone rings your doorbell, you'll receive a notification with both an animated preview and an AI-generated description of the activity. AI Video Descriptions will rename notification titles to help you quickly understand what triggered the alert.

You can activate or deactivate AI Video Descriptions for individual devices at any time. Turning off the feature will remove all descriptions.

Important note: You'll need to activate AI Video Descriptions on any new Ring devices added to your account.

Understanding description accuracy

AI Video Descriptions might occasionally be inaccurate. Common reasons include:

  • Poor lighting or limited visibility
  • Fast-moving objects or people
  • Complex or overlapping activities in the scene
  • Weather conditions affecting video quality
  • Objects or people too far from the camera

AI Single Event Alert (beta)

AI Single Event Alert reduces notification clutter by combining similar alerts from the same camera within a set time period.

You can turn AI Single Event Alert on or off in the Ring app. If you already had AI Video Descriptions activated, AI Single Event Alert will be auto-enabled on any new devices added to the account.

Important note: You can expect a brief delay in AI Single Event Alert notifications as the system checks for similar events to reduce notification clutter. When your Ring device detects motion or someone rings your doorbell, you'll receive a notification with an animated preview and AI-generated description of the activity.

AI Unusual Event Alert (beta) (coming soon)

AI Unusual Event Alert reduces notification fatigue by intelligently filtering alerts, only notifying users of unusual events.

AI Unusual Event Alert works with Video Descriptions to identify unusual events on your property. The system analyzes motion detection patterns from your recent history and the type of activity, and will only send a notification for events that deviate from recent patterns. You can inspect each Unusual Event Alert in your Event History Timeline in the Ring app, to read why the system marked the event as unusual.

After enabling AI Unusual Event Alert, the Ring app could display a message that indicates the feature is learning. AI Unusual Event Alert takes time to learn what is unusual, with learning times varying based on how often motion occurs. During the learning period, you will continue to receive notifications as normal.

Important note: You can expect a brief delay in AI Unusual Event Alert notifications as the system checks for similar events to reduce notification clutter. When your Ring device detects motion or someone rings your doorbell, you'll receive a notification with an animated preview and AI-generated description of the activity.

Finding your recordings

AI alert features will cause similar events that happen around the same timeframe to be grouped together in a carousel format for easy viewing. To view your individually recorded events without grouping, use the Event History Filter.

Learn more about viewing your Event History.

AI Single Event Alert: Similar videos that happen around the same timeframe will be automatically grouped in your Event History to help you find footage faster. This grouping feature only works when Single Event Alert is turned on. Videos are arranged chronologically, with the most recent event appearing first in each group.

AI Unusual Event Alert: Displays a tag on the saved video in your Event History, allowing you to easily identify these events.
