Understanding smoke alarms
When smoke is detected
The smoke alarm response is triggered by a compatible smoke detector, such as the First Alert Smoke/CO Detector2 or the Ring Alarm Smoke & CO Listener2 whether the alarm is in Home, Away, or Disarmed mode. The smoke alarm response also can be triggered by the Kidde Smart Smoke and CO Alarm with or without a Ring Alarm system.
- When your smoke alarm activates, it sends a signal to the monitoring center.
- The center tries to contact your first emergency contact.
- If there's no answer, they request fire dispatch.
- The center then calls your emergency contacts to inform them of the dispatch.
Canceling a smoke alarm
You can cancel a smoke alarm in three ways:
- Answering the first monitoring center call.
- Confirm you are at the location.
- Ask to cancel the Smoke Alarm.
- Disarming using your Ring Alarm Keypad within 30 seconds.
- Enter your user code.
- Press the Disarm button.
- Disarming using the Ring app.3
- TapDisarmon the Alarm pop-up.
- Confirm you're at the location by tappingRequest Cancel.
Important note: After 30 seconds, the fire department is dispatched. While disarming within 30 seconds usually cancels dispatch, it's not guaranteed.
Understanding carbon monoxide (CO) alarms
About carbon monoxide
- Carbon monoxide is an odorless, poisonous gas that can cause serious harm.
- Only CO detectors can identify a carbon monoxide leak in your home.
When carbon monoxide is detected
The CO Alarm is triggered by a compatible smoke alarm, such as the First Alert Smoke/CO Detector or the Ring Alarm Smoke & CO Listener, whether the alarm is in Home, Away, or Disarmed mode. The CO Alarm can also be triggered by the Kidde Smart Smoke and CO Alarm with or without a Ring Alarm system.
- When a CO alarm activates, it immediately sends a signal to the monitoring center.
- The center requests fire response right away.
- They then call your emergency contacts to inform them.
Canceling a carbon monoxide alarm
CO alarms cannot be canceled. Local regulations require fire department checks for all CO alarms due to the severe health risks of CO exposure.
