Fixing issues using Ring Edge with Alarm Pro

You can store and process videos captured on your Ring or Open Network Video Interface Forum (ONVIF)-compatible device locally, rather than in the Ring cloud with Ring Edge. ONVIF provides open communication standards that allow cameras from different manufacturers to work together. If you have your camera connected to Ring Edge through your Alarm Pro, this article will help you to troubleshoot your system.


Requirements for using Ring Edge 1

  • Ring Alarm Pro
  • A microSD card (sold separately)
  • A compatible Ring or ONVIF-compatible camera

The following devices are not compatible with Ring Edge:

  • Video Doorbell (1st Gen)
  • Stick Up Cam (1st Gen)
  • Stick Up Cam (2nd Gen)
  • Stick Up Cam Elite
  • Car Cam

Issues during Ring Edge setup

If you're having an issue setting up or connecting to Ring Edge on Alarm Pro, try these troubleshooting tips. Note: Video end-to-end encryption is not compatible with Ring Edge. Learn how to turn off end-to-end encryption.

If you see the message "Device not compatible":

  • Update your Ring Alarm Pro firmware by quickly pressing and releasing the reset button on the back of the Alarm Pro Base Station.
  • For ONVIF cameras, update to the latest firmware through manufacturer instructions.

If your camera is not showing in the Ring Edge list:

  • Make sure your camera is turned on.
  • If you are connecting your ONVIF-compatible camera with an Ethernet cable, connect it directly to your Alarm Pro Base Station.
  • Restart your mobile device, then open the Ring app and check the list of devices again.

If the camera is failing to connect to Ring Edge:

  • Tap
    Retry
    in the Ring app when prompted, if enrollment times out.
  • Make sure your Alarm Pro Base Station is connected to the internet.
  • If you are connecting to an ONVIF camera, verify that the camera username and password are correct.
  • If you are connecting a Ring camera to Ring Edge, make sure the Ring device is on the network provided by your Alarm Pro Base Station.

If you are experiencing issues with video, notifications, or storage while using Ring Edge, try these tips.


If you are having issues viewing Live View or recorded videos, or receiving notifications:

  • Turn off Ring Edge to see if the issue persists. If it is not related to Ring Edge,
  • Confirm that your camera is connected to the Alarm Pro’s eero wifi network.
  • Rename one network if you have two wifi networks with identical credentials.

If encryption cannot be set up on the microSD card:

  • Make sure your Alarm Pro is connected to the internet.
