How to Fully Reset Your Ring Video Doorbell

If you need to factory reset your Ring Video Doorbell either because you want to give it away or as part of troubleshooting, follow the steps below.

If you're giving your device to someone else, make sure to also remove your device from the Ring app after performing the reset (scroll to the bottom of this page to see how).

Factory resetting your Video Doorbell will erase all of its saved settings, such as your wifi password. After performing a factory reset, you will need to set up your doorbell again from scratch.

How to reset your Video Doorbell depends on which model you have. You can find out what model you have in the Ring app.

You can also buy a replacement screwdriver to remove the security screw if you need one, by purchasing the Spare Parts for your Video Doorbell model. 

Ring Video Doorbell (1st Generation) 

  1. Undo the security screws and remove your doorbell from its bracket 
  2. Press and hold the orange setup button on the back of the device for 10 seconds
  3. The light on the front of the doorbell will flash for several minutes; when the light turns off the reset is complete

Ring Video Doorbell (2nd Generation)

  1. Undo the security screws and remove your doorbell from its bracket 
  2. Press and hold the orange setup button on the back of the device for 10 seconds
  3. Once the reset is complete, the doorbell will enter setup mode

Ring Video Doorbell 2

  1. Undo the security screw to remove the faceplate
  2. Find the setup button on the top right, just below the camera
    Note:
    On most doorbells this will have an orange dot
  3. Press and hold the setup button for 10 seconds
  4. The light on the front of the doorbell will flash for several minutes; when the light turns off the reset is complete

Ring Video Doorbell 3, Ring Video Doorbell 3 Plus, Ring Video Doorbell 4, Ring Battery Video Doorbell Plus and Ring Battery Video Doorbell Pro

  1. Undo the security screw to remove the faceplate
  2. Find the setup button on the top right, just below the camera
    Note:
    On most doorbells this will have an orange dot
  3. Press and hold the setup button for 10 seconds
  4. Once the reset is complete, the doorbell will enter setup mode

Ring Video Doorbell Wired, Ring Video Doorbell Pro, Ring Wired Video Doorbell Pro (formerly Video Doorbell Pro 2) and Ring Video Doorbell Elite

  1. Undo the security screw to remove the faceplate
  2. Find the setup button on the right side of the doorbell

Note: On Video Doorbell Elite the setup button is in the top right corner, above the camera; on most doorbells this will have an orange dot

  1. Press and hold the setup button for 10 seconds
  2. Once the reset is complete the doorbell will enter setup mode

Removing your Doorbell from your Ring Account and app

Remember, after resetting your Video Doorbell, you will still need to remove the device in the Ring app if you are giving it to someone else.

  1. From the app home screen, tap the menu in the top left.
  2. Tap
    Devices
    .
  3. Tap the device you'd like to remove.
  4. Tap
    Device Settings.
  5. Tap
    General Settings.
  6. Tap
    Remove this Device
    and follow the steps on screen.

Important: The device's new owner will not be able to set up the Video Doorbell if you do not complete this step.
