Troubleshooting your Contact Sensor (2nd Generation)
Resolve issues with your Ring Alarm Contact Sensor (2nd Generation).
If your Contact Sensor (2nd Generation) won’t connect
- Move the Contact Sensor closer to the Alarm Base Station.
- Add abetween the Contact Sensor and the Base Station. The Range Extender helps extend and expand the Base Station’s Z-Wave network, allowing for greater range and signal strength for all compatible devices at your location.
- Briefly press the button on the front of the device.
- If it blinks green three times, it is ready to connect to the Base Station.
- If it blinks green once, it is connected and communicating with your Base Station.
- If it blinks red once, it is unable to communicate with the Base Station.
Note: If your Contact Sensor isn’t working or being recognised by your Ring Alarm and the battery power is sufficient, you may have to adjust the position of the magnet and sensor. Move the sensor closer to the magnet or in a more optimal alignment. Learn tips for installing your Contact Sensor.
How to remove and re-add your Contact Sensor (2nd Generation)
You might have to remove your Contact Sensor (2nd Generation) and then re-add it to your Ring Alarm.
To remove the Contact Sensor:
- Open the Ring app.
- Tap themenu (☰).
- TapDevices.
- TapAlarm Base Station.
- Select the Contact Sensor you want to remove.
- Tap theDevice Settingstile.
- TapRemoveat the bottom of the screen.
- TapRemove Deviceto confirm
The Ring app will confirm that your device has been successfully removed.
To re-add the Contact Sensor:
- Open the Ring app.
- Tap themenu (☰).
- TapSet Up a Device.
- TapSecurity.
- TapSensors.
- Follow the onscreen instructions. Scan the QR code on the Sensor as instructed or enter the 5-digit PIN code.
- Carefully remove the batteries,* then re-insert them. Press and hold the button on the front of your Contact Sensor for 5 seconds, then slide the Sensor back onto its base.
- TapGot Itto proceed.
* Note: The process of removing your coin cell batteries may differ depending on the type of Contact Sensor (2nd Generation) you’re using. You may need to use a small tool, such as a micro screwdriver, to carefully remove the batteries from their casing.
Always insert batteries correctly, matching the + (positive) and - (negative) symbols on the battery with the symbols on your Contact Sensor.
If your Contact Sensor (2nd Generation) doesn't connect or it adds as a binary sensor
- Slide to remove the Contact Sensor from its base.
- Remove the batteries from the device.*
- In the Ring app, tapMenu, then tapDevices, then tapAlarm Base Station, then tapBase Station.
- Tap theDevice Settings(gear icon), then tapAdvanced Options, then tapZ-Wave, then tapRemove Z-Wave Device.ImportantDo not tap “Reset Z-Wave Network”. This will remove your entire Ring Alarm network and you’ll need to reset every device.
- TapRemoveand the app will say “Removing device, listening for device to remove.”
- Re-insert the batteries into the device. The device should be removed successfully and you may now set up the device.

How to factory reset your Contact Sensor (2nd Generation)
Important This will remove the device from your Alarm Base Station and reset the device to the original default settings.
- Slide the Contact Sensor off its base. Ensure that the batteries are installed.
- Press and hold the pinhole reset button.
- Continue holding down the pinhole reset button until the LED light turns red, then release.
- Re-add the Contact Sensor to your Ring Alarm using the Ring app.
