Connecting Amazon Alexa-enabled devices with Ring devices
You can connect your Amazon Echo Speakers, Echo Hub, Echo Show, Echo Spot, Echo Dot, Fire TV or Fire Tablet to your Ring device and use Alexa voice commands to do the following (and more):
- Answer your door (and receive chime notifications on your Alexa-enabled device)
- Speak to your visitors
- Get a live view from your Video Doorbell or Security Camera feed (only for compatible devices with screen display)
- Arm and disarm your Ring modes1
- Play recent motion clips from your doorbell or camera (only for compatible devices with screen display)

Connect your Ring device to your Alexa-enabled device
First, you’ll need to download the Alexa app on your mobile device or tablet. Get the Alexa app from the Apple App Store (iOS devices), or the Google Play Store (Android devices).
If you already have the Ring app you'll need to ensure you have the latest version.
You may also need to update your mobile device's operating system.
Next, follow these steps to add Ring as a Skill in the Alexa app:
- Open the Alexa app and tap themenu(☰) at the bottom right corner
- TapSkills & Games
- TypeRinginto the search field
- TapRing(first result)
- TapEnable to Use
- On the next screen,sign inwith your Ring login details to link your Ring and Amazon accounts
- TapEnable Skill and Link Accounts,orEnable Skillif your Ring and Amazon accounts are already linked
- Once the Skill is enabled, tapDiscover Devices
- Alexa will be enabled on all of your Ring devices. To disable Alexa from a particular device, tap theDevices, tapAll Devices, tap the device you wish to disable and then scroll down to toggleEnabledtoDisabled
Note: Ensure your Ring device works as expected before connecting it with your Alexa-enabled device.
Note: If your Ring devices do not appear after you tap Discover Devices, you can say, “Alexa, discover my devices,” or tap the Devices icon at the in the footer of the Alexa app.
Activate announcements on your Alexa-enabled device
Once you’ve connected your Ring Video Doorbell to your Alexa-enabled device, you can set up announcements to get an alert on your Echo or Fire TV device when someone presses your doorbell or motion is detected by your camera.
Follow these steps to get announcements:
- Open the Alexa app and tap theDevicesicon in the footer
- Tap your device
- Tap theGearicon in the top right corner
- Toggle onDoorbell Press Announcementsand/orMotion Announcements
Note: Make sure each Alexa device you enable for chime notifications has Communication and Announcements enabled and the Do Not Disturb feature turned off in the Alexa app.
Activate Ring Intercom notifications on your Alexa-enabled device
Once you’ve connected your Ring Intercom to your Alexa-enabled device, you can set up Ring Intercom notifications to get an alert on your Echo or Fire TV device when someone buzzes your Ring Intercom.
- Open the Alexa app and tap theDevicesicon in the footer
- TapAll Devicesat the top
- TapRing Intercom
- TapSettingson the top right corner
- TapAnnouncement Devices
- Now you can choose what Alexa devices should receive a call notification when a visitor buzzes your Ring Intercom
Answer the door or Ring Intercom with Alexa
After you’ve connected your Ring Video Doorbell or Ring Intercom to your Alexa-enabled device, you can answer the door or building entrance and speak to your visitors through your Echo or Fire TV device.
To speak to your visitor, you can say:
- Alexa, talk to [Ring Doorbell Name].
- Alexa, answer [Ring Doorbell Name].
- Alexa, speak to [Ring Intercom Name].
- Alexa, talk to [Ring Intercom Name].
Ending two-way conversations
In order to finish a two-way conversation with a visitor on your Video Doorbell or Ring Intercom, you can say:
- Alexa, exit.
- Alexa, stop.
- Alexa, quit.
Configure unlock by voice for your Ring Intercom
Follow the steps to enable unlock by voice and create a voice code:
- Open the Alexa app and tap theDevicesicon in the footer
- TapAll Devicesat the top
- TapRing Intercom
- TapSettingsin the top right corner
- TapUnlock by voice
- Create your voice code
- The Alexa app will ask for your Amazon account password that you use for your Alexa-enabled device
Unlock your building entrance using Alexa with Ring Intercom
To unlock the building door using Alexa, say Alexa, unlock [Ring Intercom Name]. Alexa will then ask you for your voice code to complete the action.
Get a live view from your Ring camera with Alexa
If you have an Echo Show, Fire TV, or Fire Tablet, you can use Alexa commands to view the live video stream from your Ring doorbell or security camera.
To get a live view from your Ring camera, you can say:
- Alexa, show [Ring Device Name].
- Alexa, show my [Front Door]
To stop the live video feed, you can say:
- Alexa, hide [Ring Device Name].
- Alexa, hide [Front Door].
- Alexa, stop.
- Alexa, go Home.
Note: "Front Door" is an example and may differ from the location labels that you assigned to your device(s) during setup. Other examples - back garden, side door, garage, etc.
Arm and disarm your modes
You can ask your Alexa-enabled device to change modes to armed or disarmed1 for your Ring devices, including Video Doorbells and Security Cameras.

Play recent motion clips with Alexa
If you have a compatible Echo device with a screen display, Fire TV, or Fire Tablet and a Ring subscription, you can ask Alexa to play the most recent motion clip captured by your Ring Video Doorbell or Security Camera.
To view and control the recording, you can say:
- Alexa, show me the last activity from [Ring Device Name].
- Alexa, show me the most recent activity from [Front Door].
- Alexa, fast-forward.
- Alexa, fast-forward 10 seconds.
- Alexa, fast-forward 1 minute.
- Alexa, rewind.
- Alexa, rewind 10 seconds.
- Alexa, rewind 1 minute.
- Alexa, pause.
- Alexa, play.

Ring and Alexa troubleshooting tips
- If your Ring device’s battery is low, it may take up to 30 seconds or longer to “wake up” after receiving a command.
- Ensure your Alexa and Ring accounts are linked to the same Amazon email.
