Set up Motion Warning for compatible devices

The Motion Warning feature is a digital recording that notifies visitors that they have triggered motion detection and are being recorded.

The recording plays through the speaker on your Ring device. It says: Hi, you are currently being recorded. You cannot adjust the volume of this recording.

Motion Warning is available in the US, Canada, UK, Australia, New Zealand, Isle of Man, Jersey, Ireland, Malta and Gibraltar with the following devices:

  • Outdoor Cam Plus
  • Outdoor Cam Pro
  • Stick Up Cam Elite
  • Stick Up Cam Wired (2nd Gen)
  • Indoor Cam (1st Gen)

  • Indoor Cam Plus
  • Pan-Tilt Indoor Cam
  • Spotlight Cam (1st Gen) Wired or Mount
  • Spotlight Cam Plus Wired or Plug-In
  • Spotlight Cam Pro (2nd Gen)
  • Floodlight Cam (1st Gen)
  • Floodlight Cam Pro

You can find out which Ring device you have in the Ring app.

The Motion Warning feature requires a plug-in or hardwired power connection. It is not available on battery-powered Video Doorbells, like Video Doorbell 4 and Battery Video Doorbell Plus, even if the devices are connected to external power. If you have an eligible device but don't see the feature, make sure you have the most current version of the Ring app.

How to turn Motion Warning on or off

  1. Open the Ring app to the main dashboard.

  2. Tap more (•••) on the camera you want to access.

  3. Tap your device's Settings.

  4. Tap the relevant device.
  5. Tap Smart Responses.
  6. Tap Motion Warning.
    • Toggle on Motion Warning to turn the feature on.
    • You'll need to define at least one Motion Zone in order to activate Motion Warning.
    • Once Motion Warning is turned on, you'll see a message saying that it's enabled.
    • To disable Motion Warning, simply toggle the feature off.

Note: Motion Warning volume cannot be adjusted for any Ring device.

How to link Motion Warning with modes1

To set Motion Warning to turn on or off automatically when your Ring devices are in Home, Away or Disarmed mode:

  1. Open the Ring app to the main dashboard.

  2. Tap more (•••) on the camera you want to access.

  3. Tap your device's Settings.

  4. Make sure you have enabled Motion Warning for this device.
  5. Tap
    Mode Settings
    .
  6. Select the
    Mode
    you want to link with Motion Warning.
  7. Tap your device again.
  8. Under Motion Detection, toggle
    Motion Warning
    on or off as desired.
  9. Repeat this process for at least one more of the modes so that Motion Warning is toggled on for at least one mode and is toggled off for at least one mode.
