Deactivating a Ring Video Doorbell or Security Camera

In the Ring app, you can deactivate your Ring doorbell or security camera. Deactivating is different from deleting a Ring device from your Ring account.

While deactivated, you'll still be able to access the device's Event History and download previously recorded Ring videos.

Reviewing previously recorded video on your Ring Video Doorbells and Security Cameras requires a Ring Protect subscription.

If you are trying to give or sell your Ring device to a friend, you must remove the Ring device from your account. You cannot transfer ownership while your device is deactivated.

How to deactivate your doorbell or camera

Only the owner of a Ring device can deactivate a Ring device.

1. Open the Ring app to the main dashboard.
2. Tap the more

   icon on the camera preview for the device you want to access.
3. Tap your device's

   Settings.
4. Tap the

   Device Settings

   tile.
5. Tap

   General Settings

6. Tap

   Remove Device

   .
7. Tap

   Keep Events

   — which includes video recordings.
8. Tap

   Deactivate Device
