Keeping your Ring Alarm system armed during firmware updates
Firmware updates only start when a Ring Alarm device is disarmed1 to make sure your home remains secure.
A single device undergoing a firmware update cannot be armed and monitored until the update completes. If you need to arm1 your Ring Alarm, you need to bypass any device that is mid-update.
Scheduled firmware updates
Scheduled updates usually start automatically the next time your system is disarmed1. However, some device updates will wait until their next check-in. In this case, you can tamper the device to force a check-in.
When you schedule multiple updates at once, devices will update one at a time to maintain security. Your system will send you notifications via the Ring app as each update completes.
To schedule updates:
Open the Ring app to the main dashboard.
Tap the Alarm tile under Devices.
- TapAlarm Base Station Settings.
- Tap theFirmware Updatetile.
- Tap the device name to schedule an update if a firmware update is needed.
Important things to know when performing firmware updates
- Range Extenders:Devices that rely on the Range Extender to connect with the Base Station might temporarily disconnect during the update process.
- Unusual device status:When a device is in the middle of an update, it might appear to be offline or “tampered.” This status should resolve after the update completes.
- Cancel anytime:If you need to cancel a firmware update before it begins, you can do so by tappingXnext to the devices with “Updates Scheduled” or “Updating in progress". When canceled, you need to reschedule an update at a later time.
