Troubleshooting your Ring Alarm Keypad (2nd Gen)

Modes for Ring Alarm Keypad (2nd Gen)

The Ring Alarm Keypad (2nd Generation) allows you to choose between three modes:

  • Keep Mode Button Lit.
    LED lights will stay on at all times (when plugged into a working power source).
    • If Keep Mode LED On is chosen but the Keypad (2nd generation) is unplugged, the Keypad will perform as if Motion Detection has been chosen to preserve battery power.
  • Motion Turns on Lights.
    LEDs light up when sensing motion.
  • Button Press Turns on Lights.
    LEDs light up only when you press a button on your Keypad (preserves battery power).

To change modes settings for your Keypad:

  1. Open the Ring app to the main dashboard.

  2. Tap the Alarm shortcut tile.

  3. Tap
    Keypad 2nd Gen
    .
  4. Tap the
    LED Settings
    tile.
  5. Tap
    LED Patterns
    .

Ring Alarm Keypad (2nd Generation) won’t connect

If your device shows that it's waiting to connect in the Ring app, but nothing happens:

  1. Unplug the Keypad from your power outlet and then plug it in again. If this doesn't work, move the keypad closer to the Base Station and plug it in. You may have to use a
    .
  2. If nothing happens, tap the pinhole reset button on the back of your Keypad.
  3. if it won't connect. When it is attempting to pair (listening), try pressing and holding the 1 key on the Keypad.

Removing your Ring Alarm Keypad (2nd Generation)

Before removing your Keypad from your Ring Alarm, make sure you have disarmed your system to avoid triggering a false alarm.

To remove your Ring Alarm Keypad (2nd Generation): 

  1. Unplug the Keypad.
  2. Open the Ring app to the main dashboard.

  3. Tap the Alarm shortcut tile.

  4. Then, tap the
    Keypad
    you want to remove under the Keypads section.
  5. Tap the
    Device Settings
    tile.
  6. Tap
    Remove Device
    at the bottom of the screen.
  7. Confirm device removal by tapping
    Remove Device
    on the next screen.
  8. Tap
    Got it
    once your Keypad is successfully removed.

The Ring app will let you know the device was removed. You should leave it unplugged until you are ready to reconnect your Keypad (2nd Generation) to your Base Station.

Ring Alarm Keypad (2nd Generation) still won't connect

  1. Unplug the Keypad.
  2. Open the Ring app to the main dashboard.

  3. Tap the Alarm shortcut tile.

  4. Select your
    Ring Alarm
    or
    Ring Alarm Pro
    base station.
  5. Tap the Device Settings tile.

  6. Tap
    Advanced Options
    .
  7. Tap
    Z-Wave
    .
  8. Tap on
    Remove Z-Wave Device
    .
  9. Tap
    Remove
    and the app will say “Removing device, Listening for device to remove.”
  10. Push the pinhole reset button. The device should be removed and can now be setup again in the Ring app.

Factory resetting your Ring Alarm Keypad (2nd Generation)

If you've tried all of the above steps and are still having difficulty with your Keypad, you may need to perform a factory reset on this device. There are a few reasons why a factory reset might be necessary:

  • The Keypad is still waiting or attempting to connect to the Ring app.
  • The Ring app is prompting you to perform a factory reset.

To factory reset a Ring Alarm Keypad (2nd Gen), follow the below steps:

  1. Make sure the Keypad is plugged in.
  2. Use the included pushpin tool, pin, paperclip, or sim card ejector to press and hold the pinhole reset button on the back of the keypad.
  3. Hold the reset button until light on the keypad face changes from flashing green to solid red, then release.
