Advanced Audio Settings for Ring Intercom devices

Your Ring Intercom device has default audio settings depending on your existing intercom model. Sometimes, your building’s wiring and the positioning of the lobby panel can mean you will hear echos, background noise, electrical interference or have low audio volume. To address these items, you can adjust Audio Settings for your Ring Intercom device. How to adjust your audio settings for your Ring Intercom device:

  1. Open the Ring app to the main dashboard.
  2. Tap the Intercom’s tile under Devices.
  3. Tap
    Device Settings
    .
  4. Tap
    Audio Settings
    .

Listed below are the most common audio issues and the suggested setting adjustments to improve your audio quality: Note: Depending on your intercom model, some settings might not be possible to adjust.

  • Background noise:
    • If noise is heard on the app side, decrease “How You Hear Visitors” level
    • If noise is heard from the visitor side, decrease “How Visitors Hear You” level
  • Choppy or cut out audio:
    • If issue is heard on the app side and:
      • you hear loud background noise - decrease the “How You Hear Visitors” level
      • you hear low background noise - increase the “How You Hear Visitors” level
    • If issue is heard from the visitor side
      • and you hear loud background noise - decrease “How Visitors Hear You” level
      • and you hear low background noise - increase “How Visitors Hear You” level
  • Echo in audio:
    • Increase “Echo Cancellation” level (under Advanced Audio Settings) by sliding the bar to the right.
    • If no improvement, decrease “How Visitors Hear You” level
    • If still unresolved, try switching to a different “Audio Preset” (under Advanced Audio Settings)
  • Too low audio to hear the other party:
    • If too low on the app side - increase “How You Hear Visitors” level
    • If too low on the visitor side - increase “How Visitors Hear You” level

You might need someone at the lobby intercom to assist you making test calls. You might also need to adjust settings several times before noticing improvements.

How to reset your audio settings:

If you want to revert your Audio Settings to the default settings, tap Reset to default.

Caution: After you reset your settings to default, it is not possible to return to your previously customized settings.
