Adding and managing shared and Guest Users
Ring account owners can share access to their devices without sharing passwords. You can invite multiple Shared Users and choose which devices to share.
A separate Installer user type will be available to customers who needs someone to setup, configure, or troubleshoot devices. See the table below for permission levels and capabilities. The Installer user type’s access will automatically be removed after 48-hours unless you remove it sooner.

Reviewing recorded video on your Ring cameras and doorbells requires a Ring subscription. Learn more about Ring subscriptions. Only events that occur after you have subscribed will be recorded. Your Ring motion event videos in the cloud are stored, up to 180 days from recording. Modifying your video storage duration affects only recordings created after the change is applied. Past events might appear in your history, but you cannot view or recover them.
Compatible Ring subscription required for digital arming/disarming and certain other in-app features.
You can easily invite family, friends, employees, or installers to access your locations in the Ring app. To add, remove, or edit the access of a Shared User:
How to Add Users
- Navigate to and open the Ring app.
- SelectUser Permissions.
- Friends & Family or Professional Installer
- ClickInvite User.
- Choose who will receive the invitation
- Enter the user’s name and email information
- Confirm the input and clickContinue.
- Select the locations the user will have access to:
- Confirm the selection and clickContinue.
- Select the devices the user will have access to for each location:
- Confirm the selection and clickContinue.
- Review the invite information and clickSend Invite.
How to grant Installer permissions in the Ring app:
- Open the Ring app.
- Tap on Settings.
- Tap onUser Permissions.
- TapInvite User.
- Tap on the User type you would like to add from the list.
- Enter the new user's:
- Name
- Email address
- Select the locations the user will be added to.
- Review the locations and associated permissions for the new user.
- Tap onSend Invite.
After being invited, they will receive an email with instructions to join and access the selected location(s).
- If the user does not have the Ring app, they will be prompted to download it during the invite e-mail.
- The Installer user type’s access will automatically be removed after 48-hours unless you remove it sooner.
How to Remove Users
- Navigate to and open the Ring app.
- SelectUser Permissions.
- Review the list of users to locate the user to be removed.
- ClickDeleteunder the user.
- The user will be removed from the location and the associated devices.
- From the locations list, review which location to remove the user from.
- ClickRemoveunder the location.
- The user will be removed from the location and the associated devices.
Adding, removing, or editing a Guest User
Guest Users can only be added to accounts with a Ring Alarm. Guest Users can arm and disarm the Alarm system and lock and unlock connected locks by entering their assigned access code.
To add a Guest User:
- Open the Ring app to the main dashboard.
- Tap theAlarm Base Stationtile.
- Tap[Device Name] Settings.
- Tap theShared Accesstile.
- TapAdd User.
- TapAdd an Alarm guest user.
- Type in the Guest User Name.
- TapCreate Access Code.
- TapDone.
- TapAdd Guest User.
Note: You can add up to 256 access codes at one location.
