Troubleshooting Guide for Ring Smart Lights Transformer

Ring Transformer is part of the Smart Lights line of products that strengthen your Ring of Security while illuminating your home and property. The Ring Transformer is a smart power supply for low-voltage wired landscape lights. It plugs into a standard GFCI power outlet and adds smart features to existing compatible lights and incorporates into new lighting designs.

This article will help you keep your Ring Transformer working its best.

You pushed the Transformer button to test your lights and nothing happened. 

There are several possibilities. Check the following items in order:

  • Check the case around the transformer and make sure there are no cracks in it.
  • If you see a crack,
    unplug the Transformer from the outlet
    and call
  • Check to make sure the power is on and the device is plugged in.
  • Confirm the cables are inserted into terminals properly and the clips of each light is fastened properly to the wire.  

Your Transformer will not connect to the Ring App. 

There are several possibilities. Check the following items:

  • Confirm the power on the transformer is on and the device is plugged in.
  • Check that the firmware is up-to-date.

Your Transformer was connected to the Ring app and now shows that it's offline. 

There are several possibilities. Check the following items.

  • Confirm the power on the transformer is on and the device is plugged in.
  • Check that the firmware is up-to-date.

  • Turn the device off and remove it from your app. Then try setting the Transformer up in the app again.

How do you know if your Transformer is correctly mounted?

Your Transformer can easily be installed in the backyard or garage of your home. Use the included mounting template to mount your Transformer at least one ft above the ground (18" from the top of the mounting template) and near enough your closest GFCI outlet.

Why are there three terminals on my Transformer? Which one do you use?

When installing your Transformer you will always place one wire to the Ground terminal and then the other wire will either be inserted into the 12V or 15V terminal. In most cases you will need the 12V terminal, but you may need the 15V terminal if your wiring is at a further distance from your home.

Where should you buy wire for your Transformer?

You can buy wire from any local hardware store or online retailer. Determine the gauge of your wire first!

Always remember you should not bury your wire more than six inches under the ground.

There's a burning smell or smoke coming from my Transformer.
