Arming and Disarming Your Ring Devices with Alexa
Conveniently arm and disarm your Ring Alarm, doorbells and cameras with voice commands for Alexa and a compatible Echo device.1
Arming and disarming your Ring Alarm with Alexa
When subscribed to a Ring plan, Modes is automatically enabled for Ring Alarm. For Ring doorbells and cameras, Modes must be activated manually.
Step 1: Enable the Ring Alexa Skill
- Open theAlexa app. If you don’t have it, install it on your mobile device.
- Go toSkills & Gamesin the main menu.
- Search for Ring and tapEnable.
- Sign in to your Ring account to link it with Alexa. Your Ring devices should connect automatically. If not, useTry Discovery Again. If you don’t want a particular device to connect, tapForget.
Step 2: Set a passcode for Disarming.
- In the Alexa app, tapDevicesand thenAll Devicesto view the list of your devices.
- Select the device that you want to arm and disarm using your voice.
- UnderSettings, toggle onDisarm by Voice.
- You will be prompted to setup a4-digit passcode.
Step 3: Set a Passcode for Disarming
- To arm your Ring Alarm, say: “Alexa, arm Ring.”
- Once armed, Alexa will respond with: “Ring is armed in home/away mode.”
- To check the status, say: “Alexa, is Ring armed?”
- To disarm, say: “Alexa, disarm Ring,” and provide your four-digit passcode when prompted.
Arming Ring Alarm using an Alexa Routine
- Open the Alexa app on your mobile device.
- TapMorein the bottom right corner.
- TapRoutines, then tap the plus sign(+)to create aNew Routine.
- Enter a routine name (i.e. "Arm Ring Alarm") and then tapNext.
- TapWhen This Happens, selectVoice, enter your desired phrase (i.e., “Alexa, goodnight”).
- TapAction, thenAdd Action, and set the action to arm your Ring Alarm.
- Test the routine by tapping theplay button icon, or using theAlexa phraseyou set.
Note: Arming or disarming the Alarm will be registered as an event in the History section in your Ring and Alexa apps.
Arming and disarming your Ring doorbells or cameras with Alexa
Step 1: Enable Modes
Open the Ring app to the main dashboard.
Tap more (•••) on the camera you want to access.
Tap your device's Settings.
- TapModeSettings.
- TapEnable Modes.
- SelectDisarmed, and set the actions you want each of your doorbells and cameras to do in that Mode.
- Repeat forHomeandAwayModes.
Step 2: Enable the Ring Alexa Skill
- Open theAlexa app. If you don’t have it, install it on your mobile device.
- Go toSkills & Gamesin the main menu.
- Search for Ring and tapEnable.
- Sign in to your Ring account to link it with Alexa. Your Ring devices should connect automatically. If not, useTry Discovery Again. If you don’t want a particular device to connect, tapForget.
Step 3: Use Voice Commands
- To arm or disarm your devices, say: “Alexa, arm Ring” or “Alexa, disarm Ring.” Provide your voice passcode when disarming.
- Alternatively, use phrases like “Alexa, I’m leaving” or “Alexa, I’m home” to change the mode for your devices.
