Wiring diagrams for wired doorbells

Make sure to use an AC transformer that is compatible with your internal doorbell chime and Ring doorbell. Learn more about compatible transformers.

Important note: Your doorbell transformer and internal doorbell chime are usually wired to each other.


Wiring one Ring doorbell

One Wired Doorbell Plus or Pro to one internal doorbell chime

Understanding the wiring diagram:

  • One doorbell wire (A) is directly connected to your transformer (B). One wire from your transformer (B) is connected to the
    TRANS
    (transformer) terminal screw on your internal doorbell chime (C).
  • The second doorbell wire (A) is connected to the
    FRONT
    terminal screw on your internal doorbell chime (C).
  • The Pro Power Kit wires (D) are connected to the
    TRANS
    and
    FRONT
    terminal screws on your internal doorbell chime (C).

Steps for wiring:

  1. Connect both wires from your original doorbell to your Ring doorbell (A). It does not matter which wire connects to which doorbell terminal screw.
  2. Connect the Pro Power Kit wires (D) to the
    TRANS
    and
    FRONT
    terminal screws on your internal doorbell chime (C).

One Wired Doorbell Plus or Pro to two internal doorbell chimes

Understanding the wiring diagram:

  • One doorbell wire (A) is directly connected to your transformer (B). One wire from your transformer (B) is connected to the
    TRANS
    (transformer) terminal screw on one of your internal doorbell chimes (C).
  • The
    TRANS
    wire will be connected to the
    TRANS
    terminal on any other internal doorbell chimes (C) in your home.
  • The second doorbell wire (A) is connected to the
    FRONT
    terminal screw on one of your internal doorbell chimes (C).
  • The
    FRONT
    wire will be connected to the
    FRONT
    terminal on any other internal doorbell chimes (C) in your home.
  • The Pro Power Kit wires (D) are connected to the
    TRANS
    and
    FRONT
    terminal screws on your internal doorbell chime (C).

Steps for wiring:

  1. Connect both wires from your original doorbell to your Ring doorbell (A). It does not matter which wire connects to which doorbell terminal screw.
  2. Connect the Pro Power Kit wires (D) to the
    TRANS
    and
    FRONT
    terminal screws on the internal doorbell chime (C) that directly connects to the doorbell (A) and transformer (B).

One Wired Doorbell Pro direct to one transformer

For this configuration, you will need to update the in-app settings for Chime Type to None.

Understanding the wiring diagram:

  • One doorbell wire (A) is directly connected to one terminal screw on your transformer (B).
  • The second doorbell wire (A) is directly connected to the second terminal screw on your transformer (B).

Steps for wiring:

  1. Connect both wires from your transformer (B) to your Ring doorbell (A). It does not matter which wire connects to which doorbell terminal screw.

One Wired Doorbell Plus direct to one transformer

For this configuration, you will need to bypass your Pro Power Kit. Remove the wire harness and peel off the sticker to expose bypass mode terminals. You will also need to update the in-app settings for Chime Type to None.

Understanding the wiring diagram:

  • One doorbell wire (A) is directly connected to one terminal screw on your transformer (B).
  • The bypass harness attaches (D) to the bypass terminal on the Pro Power Kit (C).
  • The second wire on your Ring doorbell (A) is connected into the first Pro Power Kit bypass terminal (C).
  • The wire from the secondary bypass terminal on the Pro Power Kit (C) is connected to the second terminal screw on your transformer (B).

Steps for wiring:

  1. Connect one wire from your transformer (B) to your Ring doorbell (A).
  2. Attach the bypass harness (D) to the bypass terminal on your Pro Power Kit (C).
  3. Connect one wire from the bypass harness (D), now attached to the Pro Power Kit (C), to the Ring doorbell (A).
  4. Connect the second wire from the bypass harness (D), now attached to the Pro Power Kit (C), to the second terminal screw on your transformer (B).

One Ring Wired Doorbell Plus or Pro to one transformer and three internal doorbell chimes

Understanding the wiring diagram:

  • One doorbell wire (A) is directly connected to your transformer (B). One wire from your transformer (B) is connected to the

One Video Doorbell Wired to one internal doorbell chime and one transformer

Understanding the wiring diagram:

  • One doorbell wire (A) is directly connected to your transformer (B). One wire from your transformer (B) is connected to the

  2. Connect the jumper cable (D) to the
    TRANS
    and
    FRONT
    terminal screws on your internal doorbell chime (C).

One Video Doorbell Wired to one transformer

For this configuration, you will need to update the in-app settings for Chime Type to None.

Understanding the wiring diagram:

  • The second doorbell wire (A) is directly connected to your transformer (B) at the second terminal screw.

Steps for wiring:

One Video Doorbell Elite to one internal doorbell chime and one transformer

Power over ethernet is required to power your Video Doorbell Elite.

Understanding the wiring diagram:

  • One doorbell wire (B) is directly connected to your transformer. One wire from your transformer is connected to the
    TRANS
    (transformer) terminal screw on your internal doorbell chime (A).
  • The second doorbell wire (B) is connected to the
    FRONT
    terminal screw on your internal doorbell chime (A).
  • The third wire on your Ring doorbell will connect via power over ethernet (PoE) (C).

Steps for wiring:

  1. Connect both wires from your original doorbell to your Ring doorbell (B). It does not matter which wire connects to which doorbell terminal screw.
  2. Connect the ethernet wire (C) to the included PoE adapter.

Wiring two Ring doorbells

One Wired Doorbell Plus or Pro and one Video Doorbell to one internal doorbell chime

Understanding the wiring diagram:

  • One doorbell wire from each Ring doorbell (A, D) is directly connected to your transformer (B) using the same terminal screw. The wire from your transformer (B) is connected to the
    TRANS
    (transformer) terminal screw on your internal doorbell chime (C).
  • The second doorbell wire on one Ring doorbell (A) is connected to the
    FRONT
    terminal screw on your internal doorbell chime (C).
  • The second doorbell wire on the second Ring doorbell (D) is connected to the
    REAR

  • The Pro Power Kit wires (E) are connected to the
    TRANS
    and either
    FRONT
    or
    REAR
    (correlate to where your Video Doorbell Plus or Pro is connected) terminal screws on your internal doorbell chime (C).

Steps for wiring:

Two Wired Doorbell Plus or Pros to one transformer

For this configuration, you will need to bypass your Pro Power Kits. Remove the wire harness and peel off the sticker to expose bypass mode terminals.

Understanding the wiring diagram:

  • One doorbell wire from each Ring doorbell (A) will be connected together via wire nut. The connected wires are then connected to one terminal screw on your transformer (B).
  • The second wire on one of your Ring doorbells (A) will connect into the first Pro Power Kit bypass terminal (C).
  • The second wire on your second Ring doorbell (A) will connect into the second Pro Power Kit bypass terminal (C).
  • The two wires from the secondary bypass terminals on each Pro Power Kit (C) are connected together via wire nut. The connected wires are then connected to the second terminal screw on your transformer (B).

Steps for wiring:

  1. Connect one wire from your transformer (B) to a wire nut. Connect a wire from each Ring doorbell (A) to the same wire nut. This completed the transformer connection.
  2. Connect the second wire on your transformer (B) to another wire nut.
  3. Connect the second wire on each Ring doorbell (A) to the bypass terminal of their own Pro Power Kits (C). Connect another wire from the bypass terminal of the Pro Power Kits (C) to the second wire nut attached to the transformer (B).

  • The
    FRONT
    wire is connected to the
    FRONT
    terminal on any other internal doorbell chimes (C) in your home.
  • The second doorbell wire on the second Ring doorbell (D) is connected to the
    REAR
    terminal screw on your second internal doorbell chime (C).
  • The
    REAR
    wire is connected to the
    REAR
    terminal on any other internal doorbell chimes (C) in your home.
  • The Pro Power Kit wires (E) connect to the
    TRANS
    and
    FRONT
    terminal screws on one of your internal doorbell chimes (C).

Steps for wiring:

  1. Connect both wires from your original doorbell to your Ring doorbell (A, D). It does not matter which wire connects to which doorbell terminal screw. Do this at both locations.
  2. Connect the Pro Power Kit wires (E) to the
    TRANS
    and
    FRONT
    terminal screws on your internal doorbell chime (C).

Wiring three Ring doorbells

Three Wired Doorbell Plus or Pros to one transformer and one internal doorbell chime

For this configuration, your internal doorbell chime must have the terminals: SIDE, FRONT, TRANS, and REAR.

Understanding the wiring diagram:

  • One doorbell wire from each of your Ring doorbells (A) is connected to your transformer (B) at the same terminal screw. One wire from your transformer (B) is connected to the
    TRANS
    (transformer) terminal screw on your internal doorbell chime (C).
  • The second doorbell wire on one of your Ring doorbells (A) is connected to the
    FRONT
    terminal screw on your internal doorbell chime (C).
  • The second doorbell wire on your second Ring doorbell (A) is connected to the
    REAR
    terminal screw on your internal doorbell chime (C).
  • The second doorbell wire on your third Ring doorbell (A) is connected to the
    SIDE
    terminal screw on your internal doorbell chime (C).
  • One Pro Power Kit (D) is connected to the
    TRANS
    and
    FRONT
    terminal screws on your internal doorbell chime (C). The second Pro Power Kit (D) is connected to the
    TRANS
    and
    REAR
    terminal screws on your internal doorbell chime (C). The third Pro Power Kit (D) is connected to the
    TRANS
    and
    SIDE
    terminal screws on your internal doorbell chime (C).

Steps for wiring:

  1. Connect both wires from your original doorbell to your Ring doorbell (A). It does not matter which wire connects to which doorbell terminal screw. Do this at both locations.
  2. Connect one Pro Power Kit (D) to the
    TRANS
    and
    FRONT
    terminal screws on your internal doorbell chime (C).
  3. Connect the second Pro Power Kit (D) to the
    TRANS
    and
    REAR
    terminal screws on your internal doorbell chime (C).
  4. Connect the third Pro Power Kit (D) to the
    TRANS
    and
    SIDE
    terminal screws on your internal doorbell chime (C).
