Setting Up and Using Ring Alarm Glass Break Sensor
Ring Alarm Glass Break Sensor is designed to monitor glass windows or doors for break in attempts. When armed, the Glass Break Sensor will trigger your Ring Alarm when breaking glass is detected. You can customize which Alarm modes1 the Glass Break Sensor will actively detect for breaking glass.
How to set up Glass Break Sensor
Before setting up your Glass Break Sensor, make sure your Ring Alarm is disarmed to avoid false alarms.
To setup and install a Glass Break Sensor:
- Open the Ring app.
- Tap themenu (☰).
- TapSet Up a Device.
- TapSecurity.
- TapSensors.
- Select theGlass Break Sensor.
- Follow the in-app instructions to complete setup.
As you’re setting up your Glass Break Sensor, it’s important to keep a few things in mind:
- Mount the sensor at least 7 feet off the ground and within 25 feet of any glass windows or doors inside your home.
- Avoid placing on surfaces such as tables or shelves where items are frequently set down and picked up.
- Use the included screws and anchors when mounting on the ceiling or a rough surface.
- If using mounting tape, ensure the mounting surface is clean and dry before peeling the backing off of the adhesive strip.
- Firmly press and hold the Glass Break Sensor in place for 20 seconds to ensure it is securely attached.
- If using the included screws (3x21mm) and anchors (5x25mm), use a 3/16“ (5mm) drill bit to pre-drill holes. Push the anchors in and then use a Philips #2 screwdriver to screw the mounting bracket to the wall or ceiling.

- Uses 3 AA batteries.
- Mount on the wall, ceiling or shelf within 25 feet of glass. Actual range and performance can vary due to usage, environment, and other factors.
- Requires the Ring Alarm or Ring Alarm Pro Base Station.
- Uses Z-Wave to communicate with the Base Station.
Where to install Glass Break Sensor
- Mount the Glass Break Sensor at least 7 feet off the ground and within 25 feet of any glass windows or doors inside your home. You may also choose to mount it on the ceiling or place the device on a shelf.
- Use the included screws and anchors when mounting on the ceiling or a rough surface.
- Avoid placing on surfaces such as tables or shelves where items are frequently set down and picked up.
- Rooms with multiple glass windows and doors.
- Basements with glass windows or doors with outside access.
Where to avoid using a Glass Break Sensor
- Avoid using inside detached garages, warehouses, or sheds because Z-Wave devices may not reach that far.
- Avoid placing on surfaces such as tables or shelves where items are frequently set down and picked up.
How to replace Glass Break Sensor’s batteries
- Twist off the back cover.
- Replace the old batteries with new AA alkaline batteries.
- Make sure that the batteries are inserted correctly. When inserting batteries, take care to match + and - symbols with the markings on your sensor.
- Close the cover by twisting until the lock arrow points towards the lock symbol.
WARNING: Inserting a battery the wrong way could damage the device. Make sure that the + and - symbols on the battery align properly.
