Managing Locations on Your Ring Alarm

Learn how to group your Ring devices together by their Location and make adjustments to help keep your home protected. For those who have Ring Alarm and other devices at their home and place of business, grouping devices by their Location allows you to check the status of your devices all in one place.

Creating Locations

When you set up your Ring Alarm, you'll be taken through the process of creating your first Location. If you already have existing Locations, you'll be given the option to create a new Location or add the new device to an existing Location.

Viewing Different Locations

To switch between Locations, do the following:

  1. Tap the name of the current Location at the top of the dashboard.
  2. Tap the Location you wish to view.

Editing Locations

To edit the name or street address of a Location, do the following in the Ring app:

  1. Tap the
    menu (≡)
    .
  2. Tap the
    Settings
    button.
  3. Under
    General Settings
    :
  • If you want to change the name, tap
    Name
    .
  • If you want to change the address, tap
    Address
    follow the in-app instructions to choose a new address.

Deleting Locations

To delete a Location, do the following in the Ring app:

  1. Tap the
    menu (≡)
    .
  2. Tap
    Settings
    .
  3. At the bottom of the list, tap the red
    Delete Location
    .
  4. Confirm
    removal of the Location. Please note that all devices need to be removed from the Location or reassigned to another Location before you can delete the Location itself.

Important! You can only delete Locations for Basic Ring subscriptions. If you need to change your subscription's location, we recommend editing your address in the Ring app.

Managing Shared Users for a Location

You can also use your Location Setting controls to provide access to some of your Ring Devices to Shared Users.

To access your User controls in your Location settings, do the following in the Ring app:

  1. Tap the
    menu
    (≡).
  2. Confirm you've selected the Location you wish to edit (top left).
  3. Tap the
    Settings
    button.
  4. Tap
    Shared Access
    .

From the list of Users, you can do the following:

  • Add or remove specific
    Shared or Alarm Guest Users
    from a Location.
  • Change Shared Users' access level.
  • Select what devices a Shared User has access to.

Changing the Location of your Ring Alarm

When a Ring Alarm is moved from one Location to another, it needs to be removed from the Location associated with the old property and added to the new one. Follow this procedure to move your Ring Alarm system:

  • Change your current monitoring status to self-monitoring:
    • If you are in Practice Mode, you will need to Exit Practice Mode and confirm that you want to exit. You will then be put into Professional Monitoring¹ and need to switch to Self Monitoring.
      • You can re-enter Practice Mode to refresh your skills at any time.
    • If you are enrolled in Professional Monitoring¹ and want to change to Self Monitoring, tap Self Monitoring and confirm that you want to end Professional Monitoring.
  1. Open the Ring app and tap the
    menu
    (≡).
  2. Tap
    Location Settings
    .
  3. Tap the
    Monitoring.
  4. Tap
    Monitoring type
    .
  5. Choose Self Monitoring:

When you reach the new Location, change your Location’s address:

  1. Tap the
    menu
    (≡).
  2. Tap the
    Location Settings
    .
  3. Tap the
    Location
    .
  4. If you want to change the name, enter the new name in the
    Location Name
    field.
  5. If you want to change the address, tap the address field and follow the in-app instructions to choose a new address.
  • Once you have moved, change your monitoring status back to professional monitoring¹:
    • Tap Professional Monitoring¹ and confirm that you want to enable professional monitoring.

  5. Choose the new type of monitoring you want.

A compatible Ring subscription is required to enroll in Alarm Professional Monitoring. Service available within the U.S. (all 50 states, but not U.S. territories) and in Canada (excluding Quebec).
