Ring Video Doorbell 3 Plus on a modern home's front door.

Important Information on Upgrading to a Ring Video Doorbell 3 or Ring Video Doorbell 3 Plus

If you are upgrading your Ring Video Doorbell (2nd Generation) or Ring Video Doorbell 2 to the Ring Video Doorbell 3, or Ring Video Doorbell 3 Plus, there's some important information you should be aware of related to using a digital chime.

When connecting to a digital doorbell, the Ring Video Doorbell 2 require a diode that needs to be installed for proper functionality. The Ring Video Doorbell 3 and Ring Video Doorbell 3 Plus have a built-in diode and do not need an external diode installed. Also the Ring Video Doorbell (2nd Generation) does not need an external diode.

Please make sure to remove the diode from the wiring when you install the Ring Video Doorbell 3 or Ring Video Doorbell 3 Plus. Leaving the diode in may cause your new doorbell to behave erratically.

You should also remove any existing resistors when upgrading. Resistors are not needed when hardwiring a Ring Video Doorbell 3 or Ring Video Doorbell 3 Plus.
