Fixing Sump Pump Monitor water and temperature detection

Do not place the rope sensor inside the sump pump basin. The basin normally contains water, which will cause repeated false alarms. Position the rope outside and around the basin where water would only be present if the sump pump fails or overflows.

Stuck detecting water

Make sure the rope of your sensor is completely dry and that nothing conductive is touching the rope. The rope can take up to 60 minutes to fully dry depending on temperature, humidity, and other environmental factors. Check the Ring app dashboard for a message that says "Water detected". Tap the message window to take action to dismiss or resolve the message.

Does not detect water

If the Sump Pump Monitor is not detecting water, try the following:

  • Verify the line on the side of the main unit is aligned with the lock icon to ensure the cover is properly secured.

  • Ensure the main unit is securely attached to the cradle.
    • You can listen for an audible snap to confirm it is properly seated on both sides.
  • Position the rope along the area outside the sump pump basin where water would only accumulate if the pump fails or overflows, not in the basin. Water must come in contact with the rope for the sensor to trigger.

Choose locations next to possible sources of flooding, and ensure the rope won't be accidentally moved or elevated off the surface.

Stuck showing low temperature

The Sump Pump Monitor triggers an alert if the temperature drops below 40ºF (4.4ºC). It will not clear the message until the temperature at the position of the sensor increases to above 45ºF (7.2ºC).
