Using Retinal Tuning

Retinal Tuning is an AI-powered feature that automatically optimises the quality of Live View and video playback1 in the Ring app using advanced models to reduce graininess and enhance image quality.

This feature requires a compatible Ring subscription.

Retinal Tuning is available on all Ring doorbells and cameras.

What Retinal Tuning does

Retinal Tuning works behind the scenes to enhance your video in several ways:

  • Reduces graininess and artefacts
    - Eliminates compression issues like blockiness and pixelation
  • Improves sharpness and colour
    - Makes details clearer and colours more vibrant
  • Optimises exposure automatically
    - Learns the best settings for your specific location (4K devices only)
  • Adapts to your scene
    - Identifies important areas and focuses enhancement where it matters most (4K devices only)

The feature continuously analyses your video to provide the best possible quality, especially in challenging lighting conditions.

AI enhancement will be most noticeable on the latest mobile devices and OS versions. Make sure the Ring app and your mobile device are updated for the best experience.

Getting the most from Retinal Tuning with 4K devices

For 4K devices, allow up to two weeks for the learning feature to fully optimise your camera's performance. During this time, the system analyses patterns at your location to identify the most important areas and automatically adjust settings for the best recording quality.

The enhancement works continuously in the background, so you don't need to make any manual adjustments once it's enabled.
