Fixing audio and sound issues with your Ring device

If you are experiencing warped sound or no audio from your Ring device, there are a few things you can check and try.

Things to check

Check the volume on your mobile device.

Make sure the external volume is up on your mobile device (on the device where you're viewing your Ring videos or Live View).

Make sure your mobile device has service.

If your phone or tablet has poor service or internet, it could be affecting Live View or your video downloads.

See if your mobile device is connected to Bluetooth.

Try turning Bluetooth off, then open Live View or view a recorded Ring video.

Check your Ring device's signal strength. Poor wifi can often cause Ring device issues, including with recording or capturing audio.

  2. Tap the top
    menu (☰)
  3. Tap
    Devices
  4. Choose your Video Doorbell or Security Camera
  5. Tap the
    Device Settings
    tile
  6. Tap
    Device Health
  7. Under the Network section, you'll see your device's
    Signal Strength

If your Signal Strength (RSSI) is amber or red, your Ring device likely has a poor connection to your location's wifi. Try moving your wifi router closer to your Ring device.

Things to try

Test Live View and Two-Way Talk.

Open Live View in the Ring app and see if your Ring device's microphone is enabled.

  1. Open the Ring app
  2. Tap the top
    menu (☰)
  3. Tap
    Devices
  4. Choose your Video Doorbell or Security Camera
  5. Tap the
    Live View
    button
  6. Check to make sure the microphone icon is enabled or tap the green phone icon
  7. If you have a Ring Protect subscription, you can view the recording to see what the audio sounds like

Check your audio privacy settings.

You may have your audio settings turned off for privacy reasons.

  2. Tap the top
    menu (☰)
  3. Tap
    Devices
  4. Choose your Video Doorbell or Security Camera
  5. Tap the
    Device Settings
    tile
  6. Tap
    Privacy Settings
  7. Make sure
    Audio Streaming and Recording
    is enabled

Reboot your Ring Ring Video Doorbell or Security Camera. 

If you Ring device is connected to wifi, you can attempt to reboot it. 

  1. Open the Ring app
  2. Tap the top
    menu (☰)
  3. Tap
    Devices
  4. Choose your Video Doorbell or Security Camera
  5. Tap the
    Device Settings
    tile
  6. Tap
    Device Health
  7. Scroll down and tap
    Reboot This Device
  8. Wait a few minutes for your device to reboot
