How to use Bird's Eye Zones

On select Ring devices, you can set up Custom Motion Zones and turn on radar-enabled Bird's Eye Zones for more precise Motion Alerts – so you can get notified about activity in your front garden, not the pavement.

Bird's Eye Zones checklist

To get the most out of Bird's Eye Zones, we recommend the following actions:

  • Create
    in the Ring app
  • Turn on
    Bird's Eye Zones
    in the Ring app (see below)
  • Set
    to block out areas in your camera's field of view

How to set up Bird's Eye Zones in the Ring app

  1. Acadia | Open the Ring app to the main dashboard.

  2. Tap more (•••) on the camera you want to access.

  3. Tap your device's Settings.

  4. Tap 
    Set up Zones
    on the map at the top or
    Bird's Eye Zones
    below it
  5. Tap
    Set up Feature
  6. Tap
    Continue
  7. When prompted by the app, select the location where your camera or doorbell is installed
  8. Tap 
    Continue
  9. Mark the location of your device as accurately as possible by dragging the device icon into place
  10. Tap 
    Continue
  11. Tap 
    Continue
  12. Tap 
    Continue
  13. Tap
    Add Zone
  14. Name the zone and tap
    Done
  15. Test Bird's Eye Zones by walking to the edge of your motion detection area 

Note: The radar technology that powers Bird's Eye Zones may be affected by weather changes, obstacles, reflections, wifi connectivity and other factors.

How to edit Bird's Eye Zones in the Ring app

  1. Acadia | Open the Ring app to the main dashboard.

  2. Tap more (•••) on the camera you want to access.

  3. Tap your device's Settings.

  4. Tap
    Edit Zones
  5. Adjust a zone by tapping it and dragging the circles to customise.
  6. Tap
    Done,
    then
    Save

Make sure you select the mounting height for Security Cameras. The mounting height affects the precision of the motion detection. The back of the camera should be tilted at a 45 to 60° angle. 

When viewed through the camera, the horizon should be level.

If you choose Skip for now default zones will be used, covering an area up to 9.5 metres from your device.

How to turn Bird's Eye Zones off in the Ring app

  1. Acadia | Open the Ring app to the main dashboard.

  2. Tap more (•••) on the camera you want to access.

  3. Tap your device's Settings.

  4. Tap
    Bird's Eye Zones
  5. Toggle
    Bird's Eye Zones
    off

For Video Doorbells:

With Use Bird’s Eye Zones toggled off, radar detection will remain on. You will receive motion notifications when the radar and camera detect motion within your Camera Motion Zones, up to 9.5 metres from your device.

For Security Cameras:

With Use Bird’s Eye Zones toggled off, radar detection will also be turned off. You will receive motion notifications when the camera detects motion within your Camera Motion Zones, which may reach beyond 9.5 metres from your device.
