Ring Video Doorbell 2: Hardwired versus battery-powered operation
Question: If I hardwire my Ring Doorbell 2 to my existing doorbell, do I still have to charge the battery?
Answer: No. If your Ring Video Doorbell 2 is hardwired to an existing doorbell, that will keep it charged. If your Ring Video Doorbell 2 is not hardwired, the battery will need to be periodically recharged.
Battery power
The rechargeable battery can go months between recharges with normal use. This is dependent on a number of factors in your home’s environment such as the local weather and the number of activities captured.
Hardwiring
A Ring Doorbell 2 can also be connected to an existing mechanical or electronic doorbell that operates at a voltage between 8 volts AC and 24 volts AC. Once connected, pressing the button on your Ring Doorbell 2 will trigger your existing chime. The wiring from your existing doorbell will charge the battery in the Ring Video Doorbell 2, so with normal use your battery will stay charged.
