Optimised battery charging to reduce battery aging

Help extend the longevity of your Video Doorbell and Security Camera batteries by not keeping them fully charged all the time. To help you do this, there is a charging limitation for all solar-powered doorbells and cameras, and plug-in and wired devices that also take a Quick Release Battery Pack.

Keep in mind that certain Ring devices will hold your battery charge and not exceed a threshold of around 80 percent charged.

This charging limitation exists for the following Ring devices:

Video Doorbells

  • Ring Video Doorbell (2nd Generation)
  • Ring Video Doorbell 2
  • Ring Video Doorbell 3
  • Ring Video Doorbell 3 Plus
  • Ring Video Doorbell 4
  • Ring Battery Video Doorbell Plus
  • Ring Battery Video Doorbell Pro

Security Cameras

  • Stick Up Cam
  • Stick Up Cam Pro
  • Spotlight Cam
  • Spotlight Cam Plus
  • Spotlight Cam Pro

Note: You can check whether your solar panel is connected and charging on your device dashboard in the Ring app. If there is a sun on the battery icon, the solar panel is connected but not charging your Ring device. The solar panel will wait until the battery is below a certain level threshold before recharging it.

If there is a sun and a lightning bolt on the battery icon, the solar panel is connected and it is charging your Ring device.

As the lithium-ion battery ages, it will gradually lose its capacity to a hold a charge even if your Ring device is connected to solar, plug-in or wired power.

Learn about what to do if the battery in your Ring device seems to drain too fast.
